Library [02/21]

Coffee in one hand and laptop tucked under the other, Bridge does some creative juggling in order to fish out the keys to the library from his pocket.

The library is open.

Bridge is sleepily working on devouring that cup of coffee. Mmmm, coffee.

Uggh, coffee. Still, it was early, Turtle understood, for most people. She, on the other hand, was feeling like this could almost be a late start, despite the fact that couldn't even get started until the library opened, right?

"Hi, Bridge. Do you think you could direct me toward where I might find the books on mooses?"

~~Bridge's player, otoh, completely agrees with Turtle~~ "Sure!" he chirps, because even a somewhat sleepy Bridge is still a bouncy Bridge. "Right this way." He bounces out from behind the desk and towards the nature section. "Though personally speaking, I think the plural should be meese."

Turtle followed well enough, but his personally speaking comment got a good firm look of suspicion from Turtle. "Nuh-uh," she said. "Meese? Seriously? That's totally a made-up word."

"The plural of goose is geese," Bridge replies. "By analogy, the plural of moose should be meese."

"Yeah, but mooses and geeses...err, geese are entirely different animals. They're not even the same type: geese are birds and mooses are mammalian."

"A tooth isn't an animal of any kind and the plural is still teeth," Bridge replies. What? It makes sense to him.

"Yeah, but..." Turtle bit her lip for a moment. "By that logic, good and food should rhyme, and the plural of good should be geed and not better and the plural of food would be feed, instead of just food or foods."

Blink.

"Wouldn't it?"

"Well, good's an adjective, and that's an entirely different animal. Er, metaphorically speaking, because adjectives aren't animals at all. But what I mean is it isn't a noun and oh hey look! Books on many different moose-related subjects. Habitat, diet, reproduction..." that last one was totally mumbled and accompanied by a bit of blushing.

And Turtle met the last one with a very disinterested wrinkling of her face, but it did do quite well in banishing the thoughts of the finer points of grammatical plurals from her mind. "Um, habitat and diet should be fine, please."

"Sure!" Bridge begins pulling books out and holding them out to Turtle. "This one looks good, and, ooh, this one. Maybe this one too. I'm not sure about this one but there's only one way to find out, I guess. This... this is a colouring book from that old cartoon about the moose and the squirrel, what's it even doing in here?" He frowns at the last book and sets it aside.

"I'll take that one, too," Turtle said, quickly reaching for it and taking it before taking the other ones, and gave a bright smile. "I think these will do nicely."

"Cool," Bridge grins back at her. "Is this for class or something?" he asks curiously.

Turtle lightly shook her head, tucking the books in her arms, against her chest. "Nope," she said, "purely recreational. Well, a little bit therapeutic. Jeff and I are going on a moose hunting expedition this weekend, and I want to be well researched, so we don't disappoint Constable Fraser."

"Ooh," Bridge nods understandingly. "I did something like that once. Only I was looking for an albatross, not a moose. Turns out it was just a red herring, though."

"Hmmm," Turtle's brow furrowed in thought. "There's definitely something fishy about that."

"I know!" Bridge says. "I mean, who would've expected to find a fish in the middle of the woods?" Yes, it had been a literal red herring. Well, *robotic* red herring.

"I'm going to be really upset if we get fish," Turtle decided with a frown. She might even have to sue someone. "We'll have hats, though. That's got to count for something, right?"

"Are they cool hats?"

Turtle settled a look on Bridge. "Duh."

"Then yes, yes it does," Bridge says with a solemn nod and giving Turtle a thumbs up.

Turtle promptly thumbs-up'd back. "Thanks for the help, Bridge."
