Library [02/18]

Sometime during the night, the dog thing had worn off, and Sam had gone back to being human-shaped. That alone was enough to put him in a good mood as he went to open the library.

Peter snickered. "I dunno. Floppy hair isn't the same as floppy ears. But I guess you'll do."

"I'm not that floppy-haired," Sam said, trying to take the coffee Peter had brought. "But I definitely like this form better."

"You just like being taller," Peter said. He handed over the coffee, and opened up the bag which contained only donuts. He put the bag in reach for them both. "So what caused it anyway?"

"Stupid random Fandom weirdness, I think," Sam said. "I didn't eat anything strange or touch anything strange that I can remember. And it wasn't because of my guilt," he added, shooting a look at Peter.

Peter looked innocent. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Hey, whatever works," Peter said. "You'd rather I led with Dawn and a frying pan?"

"No, I guess not," Sam said. "But I still think you're wrong about me carrying around unnecessary guilt."

"Nope," Peter said, making a gesture to cut off that train of conversation. "Not going there. I had to go to class on what should be a holiday. I'm not adding beating my head against a brick wall to the mix. Find something more fun to talk about."

Sam rolled his eyes, but went along with what Peter asked anyway. "Fine. Did you have fun at the dance?"

"Wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be," Peter admitted. He took a sip of coffee. "Better than being emo in my room anyway."

"It was nice," Peter said. "Brooke was good company."

"...yes?" Peter replied, looking sheepish. "Started as one, kinda ended up as the other."

"Shaddup," Peter said, without any real anger or upset. "I didn't mean for it to go that way."

"Are you sorry it did?" Sam asked.

"No," Peter said. "'course I haven't run into her since. For all I know she's sorry I did."

"Have you thought about going to talk to her to see if she's okay?" Because that was obviously what Sam would do in the situation, and not go and hide instead.

"No, because when I'm concerned about something I prefer to bottle it up and not bother anyone with my feelings," Peter replied dryly, giving Sam an arch look. "Oh wait, that's you. Nah, just haven't had a chance to run into her yet."

Sam shot Peter a dirty look. "You know, for someone who's supposed to be my best friend, you're being awfully mean today."

"Not mean, stubborn," Peter replied. He took a piece of powdered donut for himself. "Just because I said we're changing the topic doesn't mean I'm letting you off the hook. I'll hound you to the ends of the Earth if I have to."

Pause. Grin.

"No pun intended, I swear to God."

Sam tried to glare at Peter, but he could only do it for so long before he found himself caving and breaking into a smile.

"You're even more stubborn than I am, I swear," he said. "You'll have to let me know how it goes with Brooke when you finally get a chance to talk to her."

"You kidding?" Peter smiled. "You and Nathan are at the top of the list. Always. So how's things with you other than being a dog for a while?"
