Sometime during the night, the dog thing had worn off, and Sam had gone back to being human-shaped. That alone was enough to put him in a good mood as he went to open the library.

"No, because when I'm concerned about something I prefer to bottle it up and not bother anyone with my feelings," Peter replied dryly, giving Sam an arch look. "Oh wait, that's you. Nah, just haven't had a chance to run into her yet."

Sam shot Peter a dirty look. "You know, for someone who's supposed to be my best friend, you're being awfully mean today."

"Not mean, stubborn," Peter replied. He took a piece of powdered donut for himself. "Just because I said we're changing the topic doesn't mean I'm letting you off the hook. I'll hound you to the ends of the Earth if I have to."

Pause. Grin.

"No pun intended, I swear to God."

Sam tried to glare at Peter, but he could only do it for so long before he found himself caving and breaking into a smile.

"You're even more stubborn than I am, I swear," he said. "You'll have to let me know how it goes with Brooke when you finally get a chance to talk to her."

"You kidding?" Peter smiled. "You and Nathan are at the top of the list. Always. So how's things with you other than being a dog for a while?"

"Things are good," Sam said. "Especially between Dawn and I, thanks to Valentine's Day. So, that makes things seem a lot better."

"I'm glad," Peter said. "You deserve a little happiness."

"Thanks," Sam said, looking a little bashful. "I guess it does kind of balance out everything else that's been going on lately."

"Which you also deserve," Peter said. "Balance, I mean. Not everything else."

Sam laughed. "I figured you meant the balance. If I could just get things to tip more in my favor, that wouldn't be so bad."

"I'll make some calls," Peter said. "See what I can do."

"Yeah, work on getting that power, will you?" Sam replied. "Your problems will decrease as mine do, since you won't have to deal with my emo as much."

"In the meanwhile I'll try to keep your emo at bay by giving you donuts," Peter said. "It's a stop gap, but it'll have to do."

"Donuts definitely help," Sam replied. "Especially when you bring them in person."

"Save the world, provide donuts." Peter shrugged. "It's a rough job but someone's got to do it."

"You know you like that I make your life interesting," Sam said. "You'd be so bored if you didn't have to deal with me and my brick wall."

"Sad but true," Peter said, grinning. "Lucky for you I had all that practice with Nathan."
