Applied Inventiontronics, Period 4 - Week 7

The desks were paired off again, each with a set of tools, and there was a crate full of completely modable spare parts.

Yes, kids, it is project time again, and Glitch was standing at the front of the class looking very delighted by the whole thing. Really, this was probably his favorite kind of class to teach.

"Alright, class," he said with a smile. "Today, you're going to build something out of nothing. Pick up some parts and start to put them together. Don't worry if you can't get it to work or don't have a set design for it. It doesn't even have to have a real function, if you can't find one, heh. The point of this is for you to get an idea of what it's like to start building something with these materials."

There may or may not have been a moment or two where he bounced ever so slightly, but those moments should be ignored.

"And don't forget that after next weeks break, you'll need to be ready to bring in your preliminary designs for your final projects."

Nothing like ending the lecture on something to strike fear into the hearts of his students, though that wasn't entirely intended.

[ooc: The OCD is a work in progress up!]

Andrew sat down at one of the desks and started playing with the tools.

Anathema sat down next to Andrew, an arm full of gears with her. "Hi. Any ideas?"

"Not a one," Andrew replied with a smile. "We could build something practical, but where's the fun in that?"

He looked at the gears she had. "Have anything in mind when you picked those out?"

Anathema shook her head. "Not a one. I just wanted to make something that moves."

"Well..." Andrew pondered. "There's always the vehicle in miniature route. Or like an art piece that twirls about?"

He poked at some of the gears. "Are you particularly artsy?"

Bridge, perhaps not surprisingly, is pretty bouncy himself once he learns what the topic of today's class is.

[ooc: and I run away to work. Sandwich gods willing, should be back around 2 PST.]

Willow gave Bridge a wave. "Wanna be a desk-buddy?"

[identity profile] bridge-carson.livejournal.com 2008-02-18 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sure," Bridge says with a nod and a smile.

"So did you have a good time of romantic holiday?" Willow asked.

The grin that appears on Bridge's face is probably answer enough. "A good time was had by all parties involved. By which I mean me and Xander. Presumably other people had a good time as well but they were elsewhere."

...Liir was staying as far from Andrew as he possibly could and everyone else as well.

Dark corners, obviously, were very productive places to be.

Hiding in dark corners, of course, just made him look like he needed a friend. "Oh, man," said Sokka, as he sat down next to Liir. "Did you lose a paint fight, or is this just Fandom weirdness?"

Re: Pick a desk (2/18)

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-02-18 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know," he admitted in a clipped tone. "But it's not paint. Are you sitting here to work on today's assignment?"

Re: Pick a desk (2/18)

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2008-02-18 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Sokka nodded. "You looked lonely."

A pause.

"And green. But don't worry, if it's a Fandom thing, it'll probably go away in a day or two."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-02-18 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"How heartening," he said, keeping as much of the sarcasm out of his voice as he could.

He breathed out.

"We should put something together. I shouldn't let this affect my work. Or your work, if we're working together."

Now this, A.J. could do. Of course, he was wondering if it counted if all he ended up making out of the parts was just art.

Since A.J. didn't seem to be paired up yet, Jaina asked, "Still need a partner?"

"At the moment," A.J.'s head bobbed, "it's looking that way. You?"

"Less so now," she smiled, sitting. "Any idea what you want to make."

Rodney had a thoughtful look on his face as he considered what he might build today.

Doom took the seat next to Rodney. "Hello! Have any ideas? I say we make a robot arm that can high five people."

Re: Pick a desk (2/18)

[identity profile] mrodneymckay.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Rodney raised his eyebrows. "Just an arm? You don't want the whole robot?"

Re: Pick a desk (2/18)

[identity profile] honoraryphd.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Robots have been done," Doom said without a trace of irony. "A robot arm that exists solely for high fives would be new AND awesome."

Rikku sat down, looking around for a partner, and -- ooooooh! Wires!
