Sam was ~~not at all late omg~~ hoping for a quiet morning as he went in to open the library. He had a lot of research and homework he wanted to get done before the day was through.

"I'm being a good boyfriend. I'm giving her all the space she needs until she doesn't need it anymore," Sam said, before sighing. "She was having nightmares, about what happened. I'm not going to push sex on her when she's dealing with that sort of thing."

"And if I pointed out that sex is great at getting your mind off nightmares...?"

"...I would remind you that you think sex is great for everything, but when the nightmares have to do with me, sex with me is the last thing Dawn wants."

Dean frowned. "Has she said she's having nightmares about you?"

"She doesn't like to talk about them, but I think they're about when the demon attacked her," Sam said.

"That wouldn't be about you then. That would be about the demon. I'll even go so far as to maybe allow that they're about Alec, but-"

"But she wouldn't be having them if it wasn't for me," Sam said. "Look, just forget about it, okay? Things are fine between Dawn and I, that's all you need to worry about. I don't ask you how the sex is going with Meg, do I?"

Dean got a wide smiling leer on his face. "Pretty damned good. She's a lot wilder than you'd think to look at her."

"That wasn't me asking, Dean," Sam said, making a face.

"Now you don't have to."

"I don't want to," Sam said. "I don't want to know anything about your sex life, remember? I'd like to be able to look at Meg with a straight face."

"I look at Dawn with a straight face."

"Because I do my best to tell you as little about what we do as possible," Sam said.

"Actually I look at her with a straight face because she's my friend," Dean corrected.

"A friend whose sex life you're way too concerned about," Sam replied.

Dean rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I'm concerned that things are going all right for her. Deal with it."

"Things are fine, I told you that," Sam said, snapping a little. "We've been working to try to get things back to normal, back to being okay, and they are now, and I'm not screwing things up again just because you think we have to be having sex to be really all right."

"That's just a symptom," Dean said. "Because admit it or not, sex is part of relationships. And the fact that you think she's having nightmares about you..."

"Sex isn't as important to Dawn and I as it is to you," Sam said. "And I don't think she's having nightmares, I know she is."

"It's not the nightmare bit that's important in the sentence. It's the 'about you' bit."

"They're nightmares because of me. Because of us," Sam said. "She'd be fine if she hadn't gotten attacked."

"I think there's a lot going on with Dawn," Dean said. "Only some of it is because of us and what happened."

"You think so?" Sam asked. "She's...I've gotten the feeling that she hasn't been telling me everything that's going on in her head. But I don't know why."

"Maybe because you've had a bunch of stuff going on in your head?"

"Yeah, but I can ignore the stuff going on in my head if I focus on her stuff instead," Sam said.
