Library [Sunday, February 10]

After a week off from the library, Lee was back behind the desk, eating a banana for breakfast and idly spinning a book around since he didn't want to read it just yet. He figured he could be productive, get some homework done but there just wasn't academic motivation today.

Quietly, Adah chuckled a little at that, her grin pushing beyond what she could control as an idea started to formulate a bit in her head for Wednesday. She shook her head, tucking it away until then. "So, you drank it? After you'd felt you'd offended him? That's rather brave..."

Adah knew she probably shouldn't, especially since, considering what she'd known about Bob the Librarian, if he was going to risk killing anyone, it wouldn't most likely be someone as insubstantial in the grand scheme of things as the Eel, but she was far, far too much of a fan of speculation. Her eyes widened, eyebrows lifting in slight alarm.

"Well, how long ago was a while ago?"

Adah gave a slow, thoughtful nod. "Not all poisons necessarily activate immediately. In fact, it wouldn't be very intelligent on his part to use one that did, as that would make his hand in it too obvious. And it might not even be time based; it might work with the chemicals in your body to activate only when certain internal reactions are activated."

Adah actually was fairly confident that such poisons were entirely the product of imagination, but, at the same time, based on how many mispronunciations she'd picked up on when the Eel was reading from the virology book last week, figured he didn't. Thus making her the expert in this case.

Well, considering who was working the clinic tonight...She nodded, somewhat gravely, thinking that this had to be reaching whole new levels regarding methods of how to see more of a person. Really, though, the opportunity was there, she was only taking what was offered to her.

"It wouldn't hurt," she offered.

"There really wouldn't be a point," Adah told him, silently complimenting him on figuring out a potential problem. "I mean, if there was any immediate harm, you'd be already dead, wouldn't you?"

"This evening," Adah confirmed with a nod. "I happen to know for a fact that the volunteer on the shift for this evening is very well-researched. And, by then, it will have given more than enough time to spot any potentially worrisome symptoms that might have been incubating."

Adah bit her lip a bit. Maybe this was just a little bit on the side of too cruel when all she really had to do was just say that she'd like a visit and he'd probably come...

...Nahhhhh.

"If I thought you were in immediate danger, do you think I'd be so calm?"

Adah couldn't help a bit of a grin at that. "I think that's letting him off easy. I might even want to punch him at that point."

Adah nodded, back straightening by perhaps a vertebrae or two with the confidence in her mission. "I will," she said. "Slowly and painfully, so that the punishment poetically fits the crime."

Adah gave him a warning look, one that made it clear that there better not be any sarcasm in that. "Possible double hero, if suspicions are confirmed and I have to find you an antidote," she reminded him. And he'd better not forget it.

"You mean to say," Adah deadpanned, lowering her head with a dire tone of disbelief, "there would be a greater reward than merely the knowledge of saving lives and vanquishing evil?"

That earned him a narrowing of Adah's eyes. "Like what?" she asked. "I don't believe you."

A wrinkled nose now joined the narrowed eyes. "How will I know if it's worth the effort, then?"
