How to Survive Your Own Cooking [Class 4]

"The business of the day is stew," Lulu began. "Most stews are thickened with flour, or occasionally corn starch; this recipe is one I prefer, in which the barley, and to a lesser extent the rice and lentils, thicken the stew on their own. Stews usually take much longer to make than would be available in a class period -- so, instead, thanks to some interesting functions I found here in the home ec lab la la handwavy Fandom magic la la, each cooking phase, which normally takes 25 minutes for this particular recipe, will instead take only 7. This should give you plenty of time to complete the stew during this class period."

Lulu went over the recipe, explaining what each of the different terms -- such as 'simmer' -- meant. "Also," she said, "you will be making biscuits to go along with the stew. Everything you need is available at your stations. Please, pair up -- again, with a new partner, someone you haven't yet worked with -- and go to your stations."

[Plz to be waiting for OCD is up!]

Liir was confused right back.

"You've never done a stew?"

Is totally good with later tonight for great SP!

"Dude," Mikey said, looking from the ingredients to the TA, "My cooking experience starts and stops with pizza. Stew... kinda doesn't go good on pizza, you know?"

I am here at last! Sorry for being gone for about a bajillion years, omg.</s<

"Most of my cooking was doing up stew," he admitted as he looked at the recipe. "And biscuits, to be honest."

He gave a crooked grin.

"This is actually a little nostalgic," he said. "How about we team up, hmm? I'll show you how easy it is."

Sorry I passed out!

Mikey grinned right back.

"Dude, that would be most awesome!" He bounced a little - as you do - before holding his hand out toward Liir. "I'm Michelangelo, dude. But people call me Mikey."

Passing out happens! Hi!

He took the hand and shook it, a flick of a glance looking at his skin against the Turtle's.

"Nice to meet you," he said politely. After all, it was just a big Turtle. Not that he'd ever heard of one this big. But perhaps--

"You're not from the O.Z., are you?"

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] halfshell-hero.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"The O.Z.?" Mikey blinked and tilted his head, confused for a moment. Maybe that was, like... Omaha Zoo, or something? Did Omaha have a zoo? "Nah, dude. I'm from New York."

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh."

...oh the questions he would have for Teddy after that.

"I didn't know they had Animals in New York. Teddy hadn't mentioned."

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] halfshell-hero.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sure, New York's got animals," Mikey repled, ever-so-oblivious to any notion that Liir was probably referring to talking animals in particular, "they're just, you know. The small stuff. Squirrels and pigeons and stuff like that, you know?"

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
He rolled his eyes, just the once.

"I'm sure it has animals," he said. "Everywhere has animals. I just didn't know there were Animals."

...oh, this should get unamusing rather quickly.

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] halfshell-hero.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Huh?" Mikey blinked. He blinked again. There was a little lightbulb somewhere, just trying to turn on. It was trying very hard. "You mean, like me?"

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're bigger than any Turtle" very definitely capitalized "I've ever heard of but yes. Talking, thinking, educated. Animals."

Beat.

"Yes, like you."

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] halfshell-hero.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Beat.

Beat.

"The only other, uh, Animals," most certainly capitalized, "there are in New York that I know of are my three brothers and my dad," Mikey offered. "He's a rat, though, not a turtle."

And now I flee to work yet again. Up for more super-duper-slowplay?

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Rat," he corrected absently. "And Turtle. And that's not surprising."

After all, with things as they are...

Well, there could be other places that were hard on Animals. And if the Wizard had been from Earth, he'd probably just brought his prejudices with him.

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] halfshell-hero.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
"It isn't?" Mikey blinked. He was bound to be doing a good deal of blinking during this conversation. "Most people are kinda surprised that we even exist at all." He leaned forward a little as though he was about to share some sort of huge secret. "We're kinda not normal, you know?"

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"You're bigger than I've ever seen," he admitted. "But there are Animals in Oz. I've known a few, though not many. They haven't been treated well of late."

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] halfshell-hero.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe people just kinda aren't used to, um. Animals?" Michelangelo scratched his head thoughtfully. "I mean, if there aren't many in Oz, either, it would be kinda weird to see, like, a Llama walking down the street with a newspaper, wouldn't it, dude?"

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Nowadays, yes," he said. "It used to be rather commonplace, though. The Witch said that she used to have a Goat for a professor, in fact, back when she was at Shiz. And Nanny would tell stories."

And we Do Not Speak of the book With the Horse.

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] halfshell-hero.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Mikey was getting that kinda dreamy, faraway look in his eye.

"Man, it must have been a really cool place, seeing Animals walking around like normal people. My family kinda has to live in the sewer."

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't know. By the time I got to the Emerald City, well, it seems a vastly different place from the one the Witch spoke of," he admitted.

Then.

"A sewer?"

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] halfshell-hero.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," the turtle nodded his head, "but it's pretty cool, once you get over the smell, you know? Lots of places to go skateboarding and stuff. The pizza guy in New York even delivers to sewer grates. How awesome is that?"

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't question the 'pizza guy'.

But then he had a rather horrible thought.

"It's just a sewer, yes? No... bars anywhere to keep anyone anyplace?"

It wasn't Southstairs, er, right?

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] halfshell-hero.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Bars? No, bro, not unless you count the ones keeping people from falling in, you know?" That kind of fall would suck.

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
"It just sounded like something unpleasant from home. Sorry."

He pointed to the class sheets.

"We should probably get started."

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] halfshell-hero.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Mikey glanced at the sheets, then nodded his head.

"Dude, right. Stew." .... "Tell me I can't burn the place down making stew, man?"

Re: Pair Up [Class 4]

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I won't let you," he said.

He couldn't help but roll his eyes.

"Why everyone seems to think they're going to burn something down doing simple cooking, I don't know. If I can do it, idiot that I am, anyone can. It just takes a little bit of patience and some sense."

He started assembling things.
