My Country - Week 2 - Friday Period 3

As the students came in Yondaime was at the front of the class tacking up a large map of some made up world. He smiled at everyone once he was done. “Well like the syllabus promises, today you are getting your countries and naming them,” he explained. “Each country has a number corresponding to it and you’ll find out which is your country by looking at the number taped down on your desk. Also each country has a strength and a weakness and the two smallest countries have two strengths to make up for being so small.” Yondaime shrugged. “It only seemed fair.”

“As for names, the sky is the limit,” he grinned. “I don’t care if you call your country the ‘land of rainbows and glitter. Usually though a countries name reflects the country… with the exception of Greenland and Iceland, I don’t understand those ones, but I don’t think that will matter much here. Once you’ve got a name for your country you can come up and write it on the map then meet with the countries that border yours.”

Teddy snagged this one, thinking maybe the volcanoes could be harnessed into something good.

And the shape was cool.

He called it 'Dorrek'. Because he was allowed to be vain sometimes. On the down low.

Makoto stared at his country for a really long time. How was he supposed to name a country?

Eventually he gave up trying to come up with something that sounded right and went with 'Silly Dragon'.

Because, well, that's what it looked like. Sortof. A little.

Oh, this was a no brainer.

BURTONIA. There were additional squiggles as Jack tried to think of names for the individual islands.

Ronan considered the country for a short while, until finally a memory of his childhood surfaced. He'd often dreamed of visiting this one imaginary place (... and occasionally considered looking it up, once he was a wizard), a kingdom governed by magic. Perhaps his country wouldn't have a court of mages, but the name was perhaps still suited.

At some point during class, Cimorene came over with a container (http://lickyourownbowl.wordpress.com/2007/06/30/spicy-mayan-chocolate-mousse/). "Cimorene."

"Beg pardon?" Ronan asked, blinking at the girl who'd soaked him the weekend before.

"You wanted to start over. My name is Cimorene." This is as much an apology he was going to get. As well as the container that was being waved in his general direction.

Ronan smiled softly. "Ah, yes. Well, thank you, Cimorene. What's this?" he added, taking the container.

"Chocolate mousse. Isabel said you like spicy food, so I tried." Again, as close to an apology as he's getting.

"... Spicy chocolate mousse?" Ronan hastily opened the container, dipping one finger in and tasting the sweet and spicy concoction. "Cimorene? I think you may be my new best friend."

"Even after I tried to melt you?" Cimorene asked with a dry smile.

Mikey really didn't think that being bordered on all sides by other dudes was going to be a disadvantage. The more the merrier, totally!

When it came to naming his country, the answer was simple enough.

'Cowabungatopia!'

Cimorene starred at her country for a while, trying to figure out what to name it and finally settled on Katalil.

Demyx barely had to think about it. He scrawled 'Musicland' on the map, pleased with himself.
