Fandom High Student Handbook
Students and teachers, welcome to the new schoool year. Classes will officially start on Wednesday, and as you can see, teachers are already providing students with the information for their particular fields of study.
Please feel free to read the information in this post to be prepared for the new school year. And you'll definitely need a little fucking preparation, what with how weird this place can get.
Teachers
All teachers at Fandom High are given free rein to do whatever teachers at other schools might do, within reason. Teachers may:
-- teach the classes of their choice.
-- assign homework to their students.
-- give tests and pop quizzes.
-- organize and run extracurricular activities and teams of their choice.
-- engage in parent/teacher conferences.
-- order unruly or misbehaving students to detention.
Teachers should try to restrict their academic posts to the weekdays. Any teachers who post on the weekends should only be those who volunteer to watch over detention (and those who do will be allowed access to
principalconnor's arsenal, as the creatures and dangers that lurk in the detention area are too dangerous by far), chaperone any school functions, or run any school-sponsored sports events.
Teachers are advised to keep students out of the girls' restroom next to the cafeteria, as it tends to devour any wayward students who wander into it. Also, locker 327 is to remain locked, as it contains an interdimensional portal which deposits those who enteror are shoved into it in the most unlikely of places, like Oz, Santa's magical workshop, or Minnesota.
Students
All students at Fandom High are welcome to use their schedule to express themselves and choose their classes as they wish. However, students must:
-- choose at least three classes and comment in them each at least once a week. Students do not have to ask the teachers a question or discuss the schoolwork, though -- they can also gossip, pass notes, or generally cause trouble if they wish.
-- choose at least one extracurricular activity to engage in at least once a week. Students who don't will receive detention one weekend a month, although I'm certain those who don't choose an extracurricular activity will enjoy being locked in the detention room to fend for themselves that particular weekend.
-- show up for detention as assigned.
-- complete coursework as assigned.
I should also point out that only teenaged versions of characters will be enrolled at Fandom High. Adult students will not be allowed to enroll at this school.
Those students who live far away can either choose to live in our school dorms or can commute from their homes. Students can either share with a roommate of their choice or have a room of their very own, although those who request a single must keep a decent grade point average and not be found with any contraband in their rooms. Students without resources may also sign up for work-study in any part of the school they desire or apply for a scholarship. Also, any student may go into town to get a part-time job as long as they maintain a decent grade point average.
Those who wish to commute will be issued a key that can be used in any lock to turn a particular door into a portal to the school. However, please keep in mind that the keys have a tendency to let their users out in strange places such as the dishwater in the school cafeteria or the file cabinet in the principal's office.
Students with supernatural abilities or magical powers are allowed to use their powers on school property, but all students are reminded that any use of said powers that results in the destruction of school property will result in a punishment of two separate detentions -- one after school one day to repair the damage (during which any other student may come by and ... well, do anything else but help), and one day in the detention room.
Students are advised that they may engage in study groups, extracurricular activities, afterschool jobs, and social gatherings in the community, but only during afterschool hours (starting at four p.m. EST) and on weekends. Any students planning parties or dances may post in the community earlier in the week and may hold said gatherings either at the school or on their personal journals.
There will be no drugs, alcohol, discharging of weaponry, or destruction of evil spirits or creatures without clean-up on this campus.
Places to remember
For those attending or teaching at Fandom High, the following places may be of interest :
The library: The school library features an array of books both classic and modern, fictional and not fictional, mundane and magical. Any text may be obtained in the stacks, if you just know where to look. Finding such books may require rummaging through the shelves, digging (with an actual shovel), or fighting off the occasional wailing ghost.
The cafeteria: Fandom High's cafeteria serves any food from any dimension you might desire. The quality of the meal, however, might vary. Rumor has it that the kitchen staff routinely defends itself from roaches the size of Labradors and giant flytraps that grow out of the refrigerators, so consider yourself warned.
The teachers' lounge: Only teachers are allowed in the teachers' lounge for obvious reasons. The bouncer cannot be bribed. Mostly because the bouncer is a giant pink teddy bear with fangs. You don't even want to try getting in there without a pass.
The detention room: As it has already been pointed out, the detention room is a dangerous and mysterious place. Even students who don't make a habit of getting detention might be forewarned to step lightly around the door during the week, as it's not outside the realm of possibility for a tentacle or lasso to snap out of the door and grab a passerby or two. Students who receive detention will be locked in over the weekend and will not be allowed to attend any social functions during that two-day period.
The computer lab: Our computer lab features the finest in computer technology and can be used by Fandom High students at any time. Please refer any questions to
humanenigma, our computer science teacher.
The dormitories: The dormitories of Fandom High are free for use from any student who wishes to use them. Rooms may be decorated as seen fit by the students, but students may wish to remember that any contraband -- illegal substances, heavy weaponry, any large and scaly monster without a collar and the proper vaccinations -- may be confiscated at any time if found.
Teachers and students should also know that there is a town nearby, but it has no buildings as yet. Any locations you might wish to add -- restaurants, clubs, stores and the like -- may be added as you wish, but may not be altered without the express permission of whomever created that particular location.
If there's anything else that you believe should be addressed in the school handbook, go ahead and request its inclusion in the comments.

Just because I'm more or less confined to the campus grounds by the terms of my 'community service' does not mean that I'll be seeing any damn students outside of office hours or the above-mentioned extra-curricular activities unless they want their untimely disappearance to be forever a mystery.
P.S. I want my bowel disruptor back.

(OOC: What about students who don't have any resources? Would there be some types of work-study positions or just flat-out scholarships for them so they can afford clothing, food, etc? Or, you know, laptops of their own? *g*)

(OOC: Students without resources can sign up for work-study in any section of the school, apply for scholarships, and/or get a part-time job in town to contribute. Whatever works best for you.
As for laptops, those can be signed out of the computer lab at any time. :))

Also, all laptops and personal computers will need a look-over by me before I'll connect them to the network.

They told me at the Hellmouth Refugee Displaced Persons Center that they'd taken care of all the paperwork for my registration and housing. I just wanted to check to make sure that you had everything you needed for me. I really like my new room a lot. It's really nice and cozy.
But I was wondering two things, um... is there someone who takes care of the girl's dormitory who can help me figure out why my windows don't open?
And are there going to be any classes in, um, herbology or, like, goddessy type stuff? 'Cause it's cool if there aren't. I'm, like totally psyched about the science and english and computer science classes I have. I was just wondering.
::stares at your lean, ripped shoulders::
Um, anyway, that's all I was wondering.

As for herbology and things of that nature, you might want to check with the science teacher, although I seem to remember

And we could always use dorm parents. These little punks need discipline twenty-four/seven.

Oh, and if you see any armed cyborgs on campus, would you mind keeping an eye on them around

Also, any chance of a Chemistry section being opened?
