A.J. was already leaning...heavily...toward Annette on that theory...

"You know, though, Anemone," A.J. pointed out with an exaggeratedly hopeless sigh, "I'll never know for sure unless I have experience to base this claim on."

"Riiiiiight," she drawled. "Okay, I'll bite. A.J., you can play with my hair if you want to. Where do you want me to sit?"

A.J. chuckled. "Well, I didn't necessarily mean now. I don't want to interrupt your hard work or anything. I just thought I'd come warn you that we have to do it now. Sometime. I actually should be getting some books while I'm here, actually. Crazy, isn't it?"

A snort escaped at the end. "If I want to. You'd like it, too, I'll bet."

"Yes, because I'm working terribly hard, can't you tell?" she teased, waving the notebook. "Just going over stuff from last semester, and I've already checked in all the outstanding books. Have a seat, entertain me."

"Last semester?" A.J. asked. "What's the point of going over things from last semester?"

He took a second to access the situation before deciding to following Anemone's suggestion. "Think it'll be okay if I sit on the desk? And you can turn around, and I can braid your hair from there."

"Tactics class. If I don't review, I might forget," she said. "I'm trying to adapt some of the strategies we used in class to previous wars, and seeing what the outcome might be. It's kinda fun."

"Sure, hop up. I don't think the librarian will mind." Anemone peered towards his office, shrugging. "He seems cool, and we aren't being destructive or anything."

"Besides, I'll just set Gulliver on guard duty. Gulliver, fetch!"

Gulliver just looked at both of them and burbbled inquisitively. Fetch. Yeah. Right.

Hopping up comfortably on the desk and shifting so that his legs were comfortably flanking the source of his new canvas of hair, A.J. smirked at Gulliver. "He's good at that," he commented idly. "Man, I should have brought a hairbrush. Here I expected just to bug you for a bit before grabbing a buttload of books on jet fuel that I probably wouldn't understand anyway."

"Jet fuel? No. I'm not going to be responsible for you launching a rocket to graffiti the moon," she teased, scooting off the chair quickly. "Hang on, I have a brush in my backpack."

After a moment of digging, she flopped back on the chair and held it out. "You may begin, maestro."

"You know," A.J. said, sounding way too amused and desperately trying to hide it, "I was going to comment about how don't girls always have brushes and crap with them where ever they go, but didn't, 'cause I thought I'd get hit, but, maaaaaan...." He took the brush, chuckling and shaking his head, and then very happily began brushing out the pink prettiness.

"And it's for a jet pack, not a rocket," he corrected her a moment later, loftily, "and it's not even for me. I'm being helpful for my fellow mankind."

"You try running around in the middle of winter with hair this long and no brush!" she said, swatting at his knee. "I get terrifying hat hair, it could be the next Fandom invasion, I swear. For the record, I do not carry any makeup or anything else girly. My brush, however, stays with me."

"Still not letting you check out any engineering books. Nope."

"Fair enough," A.J. chuckled. "About the girly tendencies, that is. Not about the books. I've got to help Andrew with his invention! I can't help if I don't know anything, Anemone! So when we get together tomorrow and I'm useless, I guess I'll just have to break the bad news that, nope, Anemone is evil and plotting against you and doesn't want you to succeed."

"Bart's-roomie-Andrew?" she asked, trying to sound casual. Yeah, that wasn't a room she'd been avoiding the last few weeks at all. She sucked. "Hmm...maybe. You must promise not to use this new power for evil. No using your jet pack to peer in the girl's bathroom, got it?"

"Uhh, I'm not sure," A.J. said, frowning thoughtfully at Anemone's first question before rolling his eyes at the second. "And please. If I wanted to peer into the girl's bathroom, I'd just sneak in. Besides, you act as if I'm actually going to understand any of it. I can fix a car well enough, but a rocket scientist I ain't."

"That's why I'm afraid to give them to you. You might accidentally double the secret formula and poof! Then we'd all be in trouble."

"That would suggest," A.J. reasoned as he set the brush aside and worked to separating Anemone's hair, "that I am an irresponsible guy. I know I'm not. If you can trust me with your hair...if Ino can trust me with her hair, you guys can trust me with rocket fuel, I promise."

"That's why I said accidentally, silly," she said, closing her eyes as he worked with her hair. "I know you might not do it on purpose, but if you got distracted by some paints, or someone waved something shiny, you might not notice if Andrew mis-measured something."

"Oh, so now you're doubting Andrew, too!" A.J. teased with an incredulous tone, one that quickly dropped away when he commented, "But I guess you do have a point about the ooh pretty shinies."

"You can never trust boys!" she said mock-severely. "Boys are strange! Not that girls are any better, mind you, but I have to stand by my gender."

"Besides, I am just as likely to get distracted by shinies. Shinies are good."

"Can I still get the books for research if I give you my word that I will not actually attempt anything with jet fuel except under approved conditions under proper adult supervision, Miss Anemone?"
