Having received a ~~handwavey~~ message from Bridge, Karal had come in to open up the library today.

Altra leapt up on the counter and promptly started to snooze while Karal looked over the books that needed to be shelved.

The term 'man of the cloth' was unknown to Karal, but he understood it from context. "I'm not certain. Altra and I will be staying here, but I'm the only priest on the island, and I believe Altra is the only avatar."

Said avatar was currently sticking his nose in his tea, and getting it all over his whiskers while he lapped at it.

Which ruined his holy status entirely.

The librarian smiled at that, though, shaking his head. "We have priests where I am from, but none with a companion such as yours."

:Of course they don't,: came Altra's quick reply. :Firecats are unique.:

"I could almost envy them," Karal added, clearly teasing, and he reached out to stroke Altra's back.

"I should hope so," He said, sipping the tea. "To think they exist and no one would know of them."

Karal nodded, taking another sip of his tea. "Are you enjoying being the librarian?" he asked curiously.

[ooc: Sorry for disappearing - work ate me]

"It has more than a few good points." And bad. Mostly the punching.

[No worries! Fled for sleep and... work. Evil work.]

"It's a good library, and if you need help with anything, I'm happy to give it," he said earnestly, then paused as a thought occurred to him. "Umm, do you know about Special Collections?"

[EVIL work. Evillll - but weekend now, yay!]

"I was left a note by the previous librarian," He said, looking vaguely in the direction of the Special Collections. "But I will keep your offer in mind."

"Please do. I like the library a great deal, though I'm not overly fond of Special Collections," he admitted.

He tilted his head, just slightly questioning. "Bad experiences?"

"It's a strange place. It feels as if it's alive, and malevolent. And I," he went pink and sipped his tea, not looking up, "I went in without permission, which made Miss Next very unhappy with me. Only once," he added quickly, "And I won't do it again!"

Alive and malevolent?

Interesting.

"I did not think you would from the description you gave," He said, calm and understanding. "Such mistakes are not made twice, I think."

"I gave Miss Next my word," he said, nodding. "Always ask permission first."

"And perhaps take your companion-" He nodded toward Altra. "-in case?"

"Well--" was as far as Karal got.

:You're not going back in there without me, not without a good reason!: Altra was glaring at Karal, tea dripping from his whiskers.

"No, of course not," he soothed.

He gave Altra an amused look, going back to his tea. "Are you also not from this place?"

:I was originally from Karse, the same as Karal,: Altra replied, beginning to groom his whiskers. :And where are you from?:

"Before coming here, I was on a planet called Persephone." He paused to drink the tea before it went cold. "Which, to my knowledge, is nowhere near this planet."

"Some of my friends come from other planets that are nowhere near this one, as well," he offered. "I've never heard them mention Persephone, but they may know of it."

He looked away for a moment, not touching the bruise on his jaw even if that urge was there. "Yes, I think you might find a few who have heard of it."

Karal bit his lip, because he'd noticed the bruise, then asked quietly, "Are you all right?"

"Of course."

He smiled, expression so sincere it simply had to be true. He was very good at it.

"Just a small misunderstanding. More tea?"

Karal studied him, then nodded and let it go. "More tea would be very nice. Thank you. I'll bring you some Karsite tea next week, if you'd like."

"That would be lovely," He said, pouring Karal some more. And then a bit more for Altra, because it would be rude to ignore the cat.
