Library; Wednesday [ 01/09 ]

There was an almost ceremonial feeling in the air as Adah limped into the library; it hadn't been a while since she'd been there, no, of course not, but it had felt like it had been a while since she'd opened it. Not that she ever did an exceptional amount of work while she was there, but she limped in, found the desk, carefully pulling out her chair. She had a seat, centered it carefully, and then settled her bag on one corner. She then meticulously angled the books so that they were balanced with everything else on the desk. She brushed a hand over the surface, leaned in close, and blew a stream of air over imaginary dust. And then she was prepared to start the day, after a theatrical, though extremely quiet, mouse-like cough at the imaginary disturbance of her lungs.

"No," he said, laughing at her reaction. "I was teasing him. He asked me about the school and I told him people like shirts coming off and told him not to just to see him react. He barely reacted at all."

Adah made a thoughtful sound in her throat. That wasn't too terribly surprising; the man seemed pretty impervious to reactions; she could see herself very shortly either coming to admire him for it or getting annoyed by it. "Are you sure," she asked, tilting her head, "that it's that people like shirts coming off, or just that people like yours coming off?"

"I...haven't really thought too much about it," he said, frowning. "Maybe people like mine coming off? I don't know."

"Well, you know my opinion," Adah offered, almost as if her opinion pretty much closed the deal, "and I can't exactly say anyone's ever asked me to remove mine, so based on that evidence..."

"I'd ask you to remove yours," he said and grinned slyly.

"Oh, I'm sure you would," Adah stated with a light laugh. "But have you?" She ruefully shook her head. Of course, the point was usually moot because those few occasions, it took care of it on its own volition.

"Not yet," he teased. "Maybe I was waiting for the right time."

Adah maintained a doubtful look of challenge in response to that for a long moment before, with an overly heavy sigh, she shook her head and allowed, "I suppose it would be a bit more difficult to get away with that than the reverse. So much for gender equality."

"Well, I'd shield you from prying eyes," he offered. "Make sure no one checked you out if you didn't want them to."

"If I didn't want them to?" Adah asked, with a teasing glint in her eye. "Or if you didn't want them to?"

He coughed and cleared his throat. "Well. The second one," he admitted. "I'm selfish sometimes."

"I like your selfishness," Adah assured him. "Because I'm egotistical all the time."

"I'm really good at glaring when people do something I don't want them to do," he promised. "People would get glared at. A lot. And more if they didn't listen to me."

"Anyone can glare," Adah responded loftily, looking unimpressed. Bored, even perhaps, although she was strongly fighting a smirk. "Our principal punches librarians, and all you can come up with is a glare?"

"I'd start with a glare," he clarified. "I wouldn't punch anyone right away. Start with a glare and go from there."

"A glare would be a good place to start then," Adah nodded, approving of this plan.

"I can do more with my arms than just show them off," he told her with a smirk.

She knew she really shouldn't encourage such behaviors, but it was difficult when it was so damn cute. "I'll believe it when I see it."

"You want me to punch someone, huh?" He tapped his chin thoughtfully.

"I wouldn't be opposed to it; unfortunately, I don't have anyone in mind that I'd like you to punch."

Well, her father, maybe. But no one knew where he was.

"Yeah, punching random people might get me into trouble too," he said and shrugged.
