Library [01/07]

Sam was very glad to be back in the library after the Christmas break. He had coffee, and a muffin, and was almost certain that he was ready for whatever the day would bring.

No books that were late, just a librarian going to his office.

And pausing before passing Sam by. "Sam Winchester, correct?" It wouldn't take long to get them all properly named in his head, really. It was simply meeting them that was the work.

"Yeah, that's me," Sam said, giving the man a friendly smile. "Are you our new librarian?"

"That would be me," He replied, smiling just faintly at him.

"Well, welcome, sir," Sam said politely. "It's good to have you here. I was a little worried the aides were going to have to run the place if no one got hired."

His smile only seemed to increase at that. "You all do seem to be able to do so on your own."

"The library's a pretty quiet place, as long as nothing's trying to escape from Special Collections." He laughed softly, trying to sound joking, even if he was only half so.

Looking over toward said collections, he raised an eyebrow. "Yes, I did receive a warning about that. I hope that this doesn't happen before I meet all my aides."

He might be joking about this.

Sam's laugh got just a little nervous at that. "It's been nice and quiet lately, don't worry. Have you always been a librarian?"

Poor poor Sam.

"No, this will be my first time in the library sciences."

"That seems to be the way things work around here," Sam said. "Lots of the teachers didn't really teach before they came here, so you'll be in good company."

"I have yet to meet any of the teaching staff. Though from what Mr. Adama tells me, I will not find it difficult to adjust to the new environment."

"The teachers...cover a wide range of personalities," Sam said. He figured that was more polite than calling 75% of them crazy. "But they're very good about finding places for people new to the island to fit in. Were you, uh, informed of some of the ways this place is unique?"

"I was made aware of the unique nature of the special collections," He replied, hands clasped behind his back. "Should I assume that extends to the rest of the island?"

"That would be a correct assumption, yeah," Sam replied.

He nodded in understanding, looking toward the rows. "I will keep that in mind," He said, not particularly sounding surprised or upset by this new information.

Sam followed his gaze, trying to figure out what he was looking at. "If you ever need a hand with anything, or if you need any weirdness explained, just let me know," he said.

Looking back at Sam suddenly, he smiled. Small and so very polite. "Thank you, Mr. Winchester. I will keep that in mind."
