Library [01/07]

Sam was very glad to be back in the library after the Christmas break. He had coffee, and a muffin, and was almost certain that he was ready for whatever the day would bring.

"Not other people in general. Just you. It would be easier for me than playing target practice for your fireballs," Sam said with a grin. "And if you ever need to use magic again for something, then maybe I can help you be prepared for it."

"Does it have to be the same kind?" Peter asked. "Not to start fighting again or anything but I gotta say I didn't like how that power felt when I used it."

"It doesn't have to be," Sam said. "Honestly, if you never want to use that power again, you won't hear any complaints from me."

"Do vampires get unsouled that often around here?" Peter said, trying for a joke.

"Hopefully not anymore," Sam replied. "Definitely not because of Dad's doing, that's for sure."

"Okay. So, long as we're clear on that, I don't mind you showing me some of the ropes," Peter said. "Maybe just enough so I don't hurt anybody."

Sam smiled. "That would be the goal, yeah. I promise, it won't involve too much Latin."

"Good thing," Peter said, grinning at him. "'cause if I wanted that I'd go to law school."

"Nathan already has that covered. You'd have to find something else," Sam pointed out.

"Just have to stick to the heroing then," Peter said. He broke off a piece of donut and nibbled on it. "So when do you want to start?"

"We can start anytime you want," Sam said. "I just wanted to make sure the offer was out there."

"You going to sleep easier now?" Peter teased.

"Knowing you'll be safe next time? Yeah, that will make me sleep easier," Sam replied.

Oh. Sure. Sam had to go and be all sincere about it. Like Peter had any idea of what to do with that. Except maybe feel a little guilty about how worried Sam must've been.

"Well whenever, you know," Peter said, shrugging it off. "My free time is your free time."

If Sam knew Peter felt kind of guilty, he might not be entirely guilty in return.

"You'll probably have more free time than I will. I'm taking a full load of classes." He sounded more than a little excited about that though.

"Just had to be best friends with a geek," Peter said, making a show of woefully putting his head in his hands.

"Hey, maybe the geekiness will rub off onto you and turn into good grades," Sam said.

"Just as long as it doesn't turn into more classes," Peter said. "I'll leave that for you."

"I'm taking some fun classes though. I've got cooking and driver's ed."

"Cool! I'm in that one too," Peter said. "Driver's ed. Though you're welcome to bring your better cooking homework assignments to me. You know, to test them."

Sam laughed. "That's awesome! And I may let you taste test, but not until later. Dean's going to be my guinea pig the first few weeks, while I'm still trying to figure out the basics."

"And you're using your brother for the worst of it," Peter said with a sage nod. "As a fellow little brother, I approve."

"Dean will eat pretty much anything, so if something tastes bad, it won't be as bad as giving it to someone who really cares about what they put in their mouth."

"Because you're both my friend, I'm just gonna let that statement stay right there," Peter said, "and not make several of many obvious jokes."

"Jokes about what?" Sam asked, before blushing when he realized what he'd said. "You know I meant that in a non-dirty way."
