Chad felt like he had a little bit of time before work and Melody wouldn't mind (he hoped) if he opened the store a little late today, so he came out to meet a few people before being a slave to the records. He found a particularly sturdy picnic table, sat down with Prince Oscar Pedro Neko-kun the Third, his hairless sphinx cat, and his guitar, playing lightly with the occasional glance around for particularly interesting new kids.

"Aren't you afraid you're going to scare the new kids?" Katara teased, holding out her fingers for Oscar Pedro to sniff. "They probably think cats should have hair."

For a moment there, Chad actually thought Katara was teasing him about his music, so it was a good thing she continued. "Huh? Oh." He frowned a little bit as Prince Oscar Pedro took about two seconds for the sniffing and went right to giving Katara's fingertips little licks. "He isn't scary," Chad protested.

Katara hadn't even considered the possibility of that being taken as a music tease though her player had</s, so she grinned at the cat and moved to scratch around his ears gently. "He's a little scary. The first fifty or so times you see him."

"Shhh, stop it," Chad chided lightly. "He can hear you, you know. Good thing he's got a tough skin..."

She glanced at Chad for permission then, if she received it, moved to pick up the cat gently. "Yes, but he knows me and doesn't mind, right Oscar?"

It wouldn't really be up to Chad because Prince Oscar Pedro recognized that look and would leap into Katara's arms at even the first sign of disagreement. He meowed, purring softly as he cuddled up against her.

Chad, however, frowned. "He doesn't mind anything so long as there are pets he can get out of it."

"Which is a good thing," Katara decided. "He knows where his penguin steaks come from. Only not cause you guys don't eat penguin here."

Re: General Mingling

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"What's it taste like?" Chad asked. "Penguin, I mean."

He seemed unfazed. He ate eel and squid. The only reservations he had were that some penguins were cute, but, then again, so were some squid.

"It's tastes like penguin mostly," Katara said, cuddling Oscar Pedro closely. "More fishy than, like, sea lion."

"...and sea lion tastes like?"

Re: General Mingling

"A little like ostrich horse," she said thoughtfully.

Chad nodded, like he understood. He didn't, but he thought he did. "Oh, okay," he said. "Cool."

Teyla was wandering for the moment, trying to get a feel for what the people here were like. Her attention was caught by the guitar first, but what made her stop was the skinny white thing by the boy, and she couldn't help but stare as she tried to figure out what it was.

Prince Oscar Pedro noticed the girl a lot sooner than Chad did. His long neck stretched forward, as though trying to pick up a scent from where he was, and realized that it was pointless. He got to his feet, stretched a little more and then let out a meow; it slightly caught in his throat, but it got Chad to notice that something had caught the kitten's attention and he looked up, following the pointed pink nose.

"Oh. Hey. You new?"

Teyla continued staring for a moment, before blinking and realizing she'd been spoken to. "Oh. Yes, I am," she said. "I am Teyla Emmagan."

Re: General Mingling

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
"M'Chad," he said in response. "Nice to meet you, Teyla."

And, after a moment longer of observing her, he added, "He's supposed to look that, too. Just so you know."

Re: General Mingling

[identity profile] athosborn.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Oooh," she said slowly. "Is he friendly?"

Then she realized what he said, and smiled. "Are you Jeff's Chad?"

Re: General Mingling

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Very friendly. Prince Oscar Pedro loves people."

And, almost as if he knew what was being talked about, Prince Oscar Pedro started purring in happy anticipation of potential petting.

"And, yeah, I am." Chad felt himself preening a little. "Did he actually mention me?"

Re: General Mingling

[identity profile] athosborn.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Teyla was feeling very brave at the moment, so she reached over to pet Prince Oscar Pedro when he purred.

"Yes, he did. I'm his newest little sibling, and he told me that if I have any trouble, you're someone I should talk to."

Re: General Mingling

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
And that would be a naked, hairless kitten, bumping his head up against Teyla's hand in overexcitement for attention.

Chad nodded. "That's right. I'm his older sibling, so that makes you one of my younger siblings, too, by association. I didn't realize he was gonna get one. I'm glad. You doing okay so far? Did he answer all your questions?"

Re: General Mingling

[identity profile] athosborn.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't nearly as strange to pet the kitten as she thought. He was almost cute in his attempt to get more of her attention.

"I am doing well," she said. "I have met Jeff, and my roommate, so I believe I am well-settled for the moment."

Re: General Mingling

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that Prince Oscar Pedro was being reduced to a wrinkly, happy lump of loud motor purring probably worked to his benefit, as well.

"Who's your roommate?" Chad asked, head tilting. "Are you rooming with someone new, too, or someone who's been here a bit?"

Re: General Mingling

[identity profile] athosborn.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
"His name is Romeo Montague," Teyla said. "He is new as well, so we are equally surprised to be together."

Re: General Mingling

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmm, yeah," Chad grunted, "I don't know him." He said it like he was feeling like a terrible big brother because of it. Not that any of that showed on his face; that remained almost perfect stoic. "He's cool, though?"
