Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

He nodded respectfully.

"Sir."

He'd gotten a better handle on things by now; he'd never be much of a social creature, but he had learned a few things here and there and the man, to him, had a presence much like the soldiers had had down at Red Windmill when he was a child. He almost couldn't help addressing him as such.

That said, it was oddly comforting and even a little heartening as well.

He looked for a nametag.

John caught the glance down at his chest where a nametag would've been if he'd given in and worn one. "John Winchester," he supplied. "I teach Fandom Invasions."

"I'm in your class then," he said, green green eyes flicking towards his own name tag. It said only 'Liir', thankfully. No Thropp. It might be on his paperwork, but that didn't mean he'd use it. He still didn't know if it was his to use.

"I don't really know what your class is about, but I'm sure it will be interesting."

Anything would be interesting as long as it was class.

"It's... a little hard to sum up," John admitted. "Especially if you're new to Fandom. It's... like a history class in some ways." He made note of the name tag. "Liir. Yes, I saw your name on my class list."

"You said it right," he told him quickly, before moving on.

"Is it a history of the invasions of this place?"

It seemed rather small, but you never could tell.

John nodded. "Fandom is an... unusual place."

He didn't look at John.

"No one's told me to clear off the lawn yet," he said with a wry expression, tugging faintly at the rags he wore. "And they're going to try to educate me. I'd say that was a given."

"We're pretty good at letting all the students on the lawn," John said, with a kind smile. "And if we don't try to educate them, our jobs would be pretty boring."

"You'd think I'd tarnish the reputation of the place," he said, mostly to himself. "Then again, I'm not important enough to, more than likely."

Then he cleared his throat.

"What world are you from, if you don't mind me asking?"

"The same as Fandom is, well mostly," John said. "The last place I lived for any length of time was Kansas. Where are you from, son?"

...'Kansas' earned him a look. It earned him a whole Look in fact.

"Oz."

It would be hard to say if Liir looked scared, hopeful, disturbed, or an incredibly awkward combination of all the above.

John smiled faintly. "I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you don't mean Australia."

"It's not a disease," he said, hoping his guess had been right. It sounded like a disease, anyway. Australia. Some strange condition of the lungs and throat or something.

It was much better than Kansas, though.

"Oz. Apparently, it's also called the Outer Zone, but not yet. Not for me, anyway. My time."
