Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[~~WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE.~~ OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

"And it will be very easy to find each other again," she pointed out, excited all over again to be here. "Seeing as we share an address."

"Hopefully we also share taste in music," Lucas teased, not that he didn't have ~~emo~~ headphones.

Coraline considered that. "I don't really have a taste in music," she said. "I usually listen to whatever happens to come on the radio."

Really, she liked to change radio stations randomly, spend a minute or ten or sometimes an hour listening, then change it again.

Often, she did it with her eyes closed, spinning the dial until she found a signal. It drove her mother crazy.

Lucas didn't know anyone with no taste in music. The thought would probably horrify Peyton.

"That's certainly an original way to listen to music," he offered.

"Thank you." Coraline looked very pleased; she liked being thought of as original. "I'd be very interested to hear what sort of music you like, though," she said. "If you don't mind sharing it with me."

"Sure," Lucas replied. "With any luck it won't make your ears bleed."

She unconsciously touched one ear. "I'm sure it won't," she assured him. "I once listened to an entire hour of bagpipes. Performing the Spice Girls songs, and I survived unscathed. Whatever you listen to can't possible be worse than that."

"The Spice Girls and bagpipes?" he tried really hard not to say ew. "You're a lot stronger than I'd thought possible."

She grinned. "I suspect I just wanted to see if I could last through the whole thing."

Lucas shook his head, "I dunno, Coraline, I'm a little worried you enjoyed it."

Coraline put her hands on her hips and stared up at him, looking stubborn. "I did not!"

Lucas laughed, "You say that now, but I just know I'm going to come back to our room to find you singing along with that stuff!"

She huffed in exasperation. "You can't sing along to bagpipes. You'd have to hum, or possibly grunt. Neither of which I'll be doing."

"I'll make sure to get some noise-canceling headphones just in case," Lucas snickered.

She folded her arms and made a face at him. "If you're music is going to make my ears bleed, I may have to borrow them."

He mirrored her stance. "If you're lucky, I'll let you"

Without realising she was going to, she stuck her tongue out at him.

Lucas laughed, deciding his roommate was pretty awesome. "You know, I never asked how old you are..."

Coraline drew herself up to her full height, all five foot one of it. "I turned fifteen in August," she replied, trying to sound very grown up. "How old are you?"

"I'm sixteen," he replied, straightening himself up just to be annoying. "And I'm a junior."

"You're doing that on purpose," she told him. "You'll get no sympathy from me when you start banging your head in doorways. And I'm something called a freshman." Freshman. The schools in America used very strange terms, she decided.

"Oh, no, no, no!" Lucas shook his head, already finding it way too natural to tease Coraline. "No way I'm stuck rooming with a freshie!"

"Freshie?" Coraline wrinkled her nose. "I think I'd rather be called Caroline!"

"That's what we called them at my old high school," he explained. "Or at least, what the popular kids called them."

"They called them Caroline?" She could tease him right back, she was discovering.
