Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

He nodded.

He was familiar enough with that.

"You're teaching the cooking class?"

Might as well do this the right way.

"I am, yes," Lulu replied. "Are you one of my new students, then?" She examined him, carefully and discretely, considering that it might be best to take a bit of a softer hand with him.

He didn't notice but he nodded.

"Liir."

He won't use 'Thropp' even if it is on all his paperwork.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Liir. Did you have any questions about the class?"

"Will we have to bring our own food?" he asked carefully. He didn't want to hint which way he was hoping one way or another.

Regardless, Lulu could hazard a guess, which only served to confirm some of her nascent suspicions. As such, she didn't insult the boy by laughing off the question. "The school takes care of supplying everything necessary for the class," she said, instead. "Some of your homework may require that you purchase supplies, but if there are any difficulties -- if you can't find something you're looking for, perhaps," she added, offering Liir a safe out, "then you can come and find me in my office, and we'll see what we can work out."

She hoped that he could understand what she wasn't saying as much as what she was.

He nodded.

"I'm willing to work for any assistance I'd require," he said carefully.

"Offering assistance is part of my job as your teacher," Lulu said, "but if you're interested --" She most certainly did not say, 'if it would make you feel better.' "-- then I can offer you a position as my teaching assistant for the class. It would mostly involve helping me to set up the classroom, and some tidying up as well, and perhaps helping with some of the paperwork as well."

"Paperwork?"

He actually looked, well... excited. To be trusted with that? Fingers on a quill, parchment under his hands that he'd be allowed to touch and organize and use.

He coughed. For some dignity.

"That sounds easy enough. I know I look small, but I'm strong enough if there's anything more to be done."

"Most of the work will be fairly light," Lulu said, "but that may come in handy if there are heavier bags of food to move -- flour and potatoes, perhaps." She smiled. "If you'd like to come to my office on Monday, we can finalise the details."

He nodded.

"Certainly."

And it would perhaps give him the chance, if he had to run errands, to find out if there were paying positions at any of the grocers or butchers.

"Well, then, thank you, Liir." Lulu smiled and inclined her head. "Until Monday, then."

He nodded again.

"What time?"

[identity profile] mistressofblack.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps in the afternoon? Or do you have classes then?"

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have class first and fourth period on Monday," he admitted. "Will that be a problem?"

[identity profile] mistressofblack.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Lulu shook her head. "Not at all. If you could come by my office, then, any time after you first class? I should be there all day."

"I'll be there after my first class," he told her, much like the soldiers he'd played with as a child.

Well, as they were with their officer, anyway. Very prim, despite the rags he was wearing.
