Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[~~WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE.~~ OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

"Mmhm," Turtle nodded and pointed at Michaelangelo's name on the list, "and, actually, it looks like one of them is back. Great. More Turtle distinguishing. I wonder if he was the one who was on the cheerleading squad..."

She looks at the name, a little more confused.

A girl named Turtle and a turtle named after a classical artist.

This is where her cousin wanted to send her to so she could acclimate herself to Earth culture?

"Were you friends with them?" She asked, surmising that this Turtle wasn't a cheerleader. Though that is something I might look into.

"Not really?" Turtle admitted, although she sounded like she felt a little bad about it. "I mean, it's a small school, but it's still really hard to get to know everyone you know? We never interacted much. It doesn't help that I'm always so busy."

"With schoolwork and stuff?" Kara asks. She gets that. Back on Krypton, school took up a huge chunk of her time, as did her extra-curricular activities. Even if a lot of people weren't overtly fond of her, what with her being from the House of El and stuff.

"Well," Turtle tilted her head, forehead crinkling thoughtfully, "that's part of it? But not really that much. Schoolwork here is nice; it's isn't nearly as much work as my old school. Most of it's because I own this store in town. Well, co-own it. Turtle & Canary?" Her head tilted, then shook. "Oh, you wouldn't have heard of it yet, you just got here, but, yeah, you should check it out. I can totally give you a special roommate discount or something. And then there's extra-curriculars, too, 'cause I have student council and radio, which isn't curricular so much as almost like a second job, but you see what I mean."

And then Turtle took a breath.

The girl could talk.

And Kara was willing to bet that Turtle probably didn't even have Kryptonian lungs.

"..." She opened her mouth and then shut it again. "Do you actually have any free time?"

"Nope!" Turtle pronounced, proudly, beaming.

"I'm not going to be seeing that much of you, am I?" Kara asked. The girl'd probably love to live on a farm, what with all the work they do on there.

Not that Clark actually would need the help.

But still.

Turtle grinned a little. "In the room, probably not, no. So I hope you like plenty of quiet time. I do tend to do some of my paperwork in the room, though, and, well...." Turtle bit her lip, dragging off, not sure how to explain this next bit, "...um, well, there's a boyfriend, but it's not like we can't find other places to hang out, either."

She said that last part faster than anything else so far. Which was impressive.

Really impressive.

Kara shrugs. "I live with my cousin and his girlfriend back home. I don't mind getting out of your hair if you need me to," she says pleasantly. Rao knows the schmoopy that Clark and Lana get in to can be rather...sickening.

"Mmm," Turtle frowned doubtfully, looking a bit idly back at the list. Somehow, she didn't think that would prepare Kara for Jeff. Nothing could prepare Kara for Jeff. And Turtle didn't actually want to prepare Kara for Jeff because she was blonde and pretty and had breasts. The more Jeff left her uncomfortable, the better for Turtle.

"Well," she said. "Welcome to Fandom, then, I guess. And room 210. If you need any help with anything, I really don't mind helping. You got yourself a good roommate," she nodded.

Kara smiled softly at her. It was a cute, perky smile, and it would probably annoy Turtle, though Kara didn't realize it.

"Thanks. I, uhh, hope to be a good roommate to you too."

Yup. Annoying. But Turtle would try hard to get over it.

Oh, man. It was going to be like living with Angela again, wasn't it? Wonderful.

"I'm sure you'll do fine."
