Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

Mikey had just dragged himself off of the causeway after a long trip on a cattle train.

Needless to say, he was just as disturbingly energetic as always as he bounded up to the roomie list and took a look over. It was good to be back in Fandom.

"Duuude," he said, in an entirely too chipper tone to the well-dressed individual standing next to him. "My big bro's a Bridge and my new roomie's the Sky. This place is still awesome."

Sky's mouth fell open as he stared at the energetic creature who had just addressed him. His superiors at the Nebula Academy had told him to expect the unexpected at Fandom, but this...?

Though he knew it was extremely rude, he couldn't help but stare. It wasn't the creature's appearance that bothered him- since he was an intergalactic police officer, he'd certainly seen them all- but seeing one and living with one were two entirely different matters. He had a feeling that this turtle wasn't going to take school and study as seriously as he did. Finally, Sky managed to compose himself enough to answer,

"Uh, I assume you're Michaelangelo. I think you have things a bit mixed up; you're roommate's not the Sky. I'm Sky. It's short for Schuyler."

"Oh, hey! Totally awesome, man! I was all, like, bummed when I heard that my last roomie left while I was gone. Jude was awesome. Skateboarded and played video games and bought me pizza all the time." Mikey leaned forward a little, grinning his green head off. "Do you like pizza, dude? Or skateboarding? Or video games? I know all the good skateboarding spots on the island, dude. Ever 'boarded in a sewer?"

Mikey was going to bounce a little more.

Sky was about to come back with a cutting retort, but checked himself and swallowed hard. It wouldn't do him any good to antagonize his new roommate before they'd even spent any time living together; as far as he knew, he was stuck with what he had. And you never know, he conceded, for all I know, once Michaelangelo settles down a bit (if he ever does), we could even become friends. Or at least tolerate each other. I'd settle for that.

"I, ah, have never skateboarded before, actually. I do like to keep in shape, so I don't eat a lot of pizza or... play a lot of video games. Especially not when there's work to be done. Work comes first for me, always; plenty of relaxation time when it's done."

Mikey stopped bouncing for a moment and thoughtfully looked Sky over.

"Oh, dude. You already remind me of my bro, Leo." There was a moment of hesitation before he was all smiles yet again. "You probably like meditating with candles or something too, don'cha? Leonardo's all about that sorta thing."

Good, so he's got a brother kind of like me, Sky thought. That should make it easier. Maybe. I hope.

"Er, not exactly," Sky said with a slight smile. "I, ah, I'm actually not quite sure what I'm going to do with my free time here. I came from a police academy, you see, so a lot of my day is usually spent training. I just hope I don't turn lazy... nah, I'd never do that to myself. My superiors called me-" he did finger quotes "-an 'overachiever'. I like to read," he added, thinking it would help.

"Totally like Leo," Mikey replied lightly, bouncing on his feet again for good measure. "So, you're a cop? That's pretty cool. My bros and I all fight crime, too. Kinda. Tough to do when you're green, you know?" He leaned forward and whispered, because this was, of course, a big secret. "People think large talking turtles are strange, dude."

Sky quirked a brow at this last statement. "Talking turtles? Strange? You don't say." He glanced around and shifted a little uncomfortably. It was awfully busy here. Even moreso that at the Nebula Academy at times. Sky wasn't used to being in an environment that was so... loose. He hoped he could get used to it, but that would take some time. "But, yes, I'm an intergalatic police officer. Normally from Earth, but I've been in outer space for the past three years, so I've seen much stranger than you, believe me. Oh, yeah, by the way, you mentioned your big brother's Bridge. If you're talking about Bridge Carson, he's a friend of mine. You, ah, don't happen to have seen him around, have you?"

"You know Bridge? That's awesome." The turtle shook his head. "I just got here off a train from New York, but I haven't seen him yet. If I catch him around before you do, you want me to tell him where you're living now? I totally have the address, dude."

It was a clever, funny joke. Really.

Sky forced a little laugh at Mikey's remark. "Thanks. Yeah, we've been training together at the Academy for a while. I was told he was going to be here, and my other friend Z, but I haven't spotted either of them." He shrugged, then glanced around again. "Well, now that that's out of the way... I think I should go meet some more people, being new here and all. I'm sure you and I can catch up later." He was actually hoping to slip back to their room and at least call Command to let them know he'd arrive there OK, and maybe e-mail his best friend Dru to tell him same.
