Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

Makoto put on his best smile, and said, making sure to sound like a girl, "Ah, yes?" He noticed the name tag, "You’re Zuko, then?" Smile, smile. "Nice to meet you."

"Yes," Zuko glanced down at his own nametag as if he had to check and then stuffed it in his pocket. "It's nice to meet you too. I'm uh... I'll be your big sibling which actually is a good thing, in case you're worrying. It means I get to show you how the phone works... And other things."

Being responsible was weird.

"I wasn't worried." He assured his sibling. Huh. He had a brother now. That was a change from home. "Are the phones different here, then?" Makoto asked, because he couldn't imagine not knowing how to use a phone. "I never knew that." He'd never been to America before either.

"Uh..." he blinked. "No, I mean... I don't know. We don't have phones where I'm from so I had to learn. So you know electricity too?"

He had to grin a little at that, "Yes, I know that too. Where did you come from?"

"The Fire Nation," he replied. "It's not on this world. I don't really know where it is in relation to Fandom. How about you?"

"Japan. I got here by plane." Makoto said, then blinked. "Not on this world?"

"As far as I can tell, I traveled my world a lot an I've never had any indications that Fandom was there," he explained with a shrug, he preferred to not have to think about it. "There's people here from all sorts of worlds. We have mutants and... things. Some claim to be from another planet too. With space travel."

Makoto was starting to think that either his brother was having him on or Zuko was crazy. "Space travel," he said, amused, "that seems a bit far-fetched."

"Exactly," Zuko agreed, glad someone understood. "This island is just weird."

"Anything I should be careful of then?" Makoto asked, not sure what he was supposed to believe around here.

"Yes. One, don't eat anything unless you know who made it or where it came from," Zuko started checking things off on his fingers. "Two, Stay away from a big teacher in a red outfit, he randomly hugs people. Three, there will be invasions like vampires and trolls and stuff so you better know how to fight. Four, stay away from gremlins, though I've never seen one before. Um... there's more, but I can't remember."

"I can fight," he said, "and avoid the big teacher in red." Makoto wondered if he should be writing this down. "Got it. What is a gremlin though?"

"They're some sort of creatures, apparently they make you forget who you are if they bite you," Zuko shrugged. "This world has weird animals. They have chickens and frogs and cows." He shook his head.

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] notreallyagirl.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
"And those animals don't exist where you come from?" What was weird about a chicken?

[identity profile] thebluespirit.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
"No," Zuko sighed. "We have pigchickens and deercows and turtleducks."

He nodded, "I can see it was a bit of an adjustment for you then, coming here. Have you been here long?"

[identity profile] thebluespirit.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Almost two years," Zuko replied. "This is my last year, I should be graduating in a few months. How old are you?"

[identity profile] notreallyagirl.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Seventeen," he smoothed his dress down, "I'm a junior."

Zuko nodded, unconsciously following the movement and lightly blushing when he realised what he'd done. "It's uh... It's not a bad place to go to. Miss Aly is a good teacher."

[identity profile] notreallyagirl.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
While it was somewhat disturbing to have a guy blush at him, Makoto was pleased that he made a convincing enough girl to have it happen to him. "It's away from my father," Makoto said, "that's more than good enough a recommendation for me."

[identity profile] thebluespirit.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Zuko may have tensed a little and he nodded, but didn't really want to push that particular issue. "Do you have any sisters or brothers?"

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] notreallyagirl.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Three older sisters." Makoto said, with a smile, "I'm the youngest in my family."

[identity profile] thebluespirit.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Four girls?" he hoped they were nicer than his sister. "Well... now you... have a brother too." Wow, that sounded awkward. "So um... if you have anything else you'd like to know?"

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] notreallyagirl.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
That sounded strange all things considered, but it wasn't like he could say anything about it. As far as Zuko knew that was the truth. "I think I'm good for now." Makoto assured him. "And a brother will certainly be an interesting change," he said with a charming smile, "thank you in advance for taking care of me!"
