Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

"Yeah they do it every term apparently," Ron replied. "It's to help with the whole adjustment to the school. So if you have any questions you have someone to go to. Really helpful actually. What part of England are you from?"

"London. You?" she asked, pleased to have found another Brit so quickly.

"Oh, no where in particular. Just a burrow not too far from Ottery St. Catchpole in Devon. Oh! But it might not be the same place you're thinking about! Has anyone told you about the whole dimensional-time warpy thing?" Ron replied. "Because that might take a bit of explaining."

"...what?"

That probably served quite well as a 'no.'

Ron sighed and tried to think of the best way to do this without. "Yeah. Okay this is the weird bit, so don't go mental, all right? The year here is 2008. I'd probably say that most of the people here are either from a different time, universe or from outer space if you can believe that. So this may not exactly be the place you think it might be."

Ron carefully studied Evey's reaction. "I haven't scared you off or anything have I?"

"...it's 2008? No, it's 2028," she replied, shaking her head. "You're off by twenty years."

Though that did explain why this America seemed so...pleasant, and not ravaged by war, as she had imagined it would.

"No. It's 2008," Ron said shaking his head. "I'm actually from about ten years back, so I know it can be confusing. I'm actually from a world that does magic so I'm still a bit lost when it comes to this place with all it's technology stuff. But the people here are quite nice and it's usually not a problem to get back home whenever you need to do so."

"Magic?" she repeated. "Like as in...are you a wizard?"

Evey could not believe she just asked that.

"Exactly," Ron said taking his wand out of his robe. "Hocus Pocus and all that. Except we don't say hocus pocus or anything silly like that. I'm assuming there's no magic in your world then?"

"...no. Why're you carrying around a stick?" she wondered, still not really believing him. "Oh, is that your magic wand?"

"Right," Ron nodded and did a swish and flick of his wand as he muttered an incantation and the next thing you know there's a plate of cookies hovering towards them.

Yes he was showing off a tad.

"Cookie?"

She was just going to stare and not eat any magically-appearing cookies, thank you.

"Probably for the best," Ron said in a conspiritorial fashion. "Most of the baked goods I've had around here have been rubbish."

And with another flick of his wand the plate went back to the table. "I haven't broken you too much, have I?"

"No," she said faintly, though what an odd choice of words, all things considered. "No, I'm just a bit...confused."

[identity profile] isourking.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sorry," Ron said apologetically, "I'm supposed to help you adjust. Not make things more difficult for you. I only got here at the start of last term and I'm still finding this place a bit odd."

[identity profile] remember5th.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, you're doing a good job," she said as reassuringly as she could. "It's just...we don't have magic at home. Or anything like that. And I wasn't even born in 2008."

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] isourking.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know. It's a complete adjustment," Ron said with a sympathetic look. "I made a complete ass out of myself trying to have a conversation with the TV when I first got here. Don't get even get me started on that whole micron-wave thingie."

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] remember5th.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Microwave?" she suggested. "You tried to talk to the television?"

[and I have to run off to schoooooooool for a little while! stupid rl semester starting soon.]

[identity profile] isourking.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right. Micron-wave," Ron said his ears getting slightly red. "And... Okay I could have sworn the little people in the box were talking to me."

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] remember5th.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
She smiled gently. "No TV in the world of wizards?"

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] isourking.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"No eckletrikity either," Ron said with a nod. "So it's no reason to be embarrassed if you muck things up because chances are I probably already did it before you."

[And now I disappear in to the AFK-ness of RL!]

"Electricity," she corrected automatically. "We have that at home, too. And TV. All that. Probably a bit...vintage, compared to what I'm used to, though."
