Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[~~WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE.~~ OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

When Teyla had been told that she'd be given a room in the dorm, she wasn't expecting to get a roommate, especially not one who sounded like a boy. She glanced around, wondering if perhaps there had been a misprint on the sheet.

Like all girls, she was lovely, in her way. "Miss Emmagan?" he tried tentatively. "I am Romeo. Are we to share a room?"

Teyla eyed him carefully. His politeness went a long way to easing her discomfort. "I believe we are," she said. "And please, call me Teyla."

"Teyla it shall be then," he said. "Is our room to be a suite, perhaps? I have never heard of a school that encouraged male and female students to mingle in this way." His expression said he wasn't entirely opposed to the idea.

"I'm not sure. I have not seen any of the rooms yet," Teyla admitted. "I agree that it is strange, but I am willing to work towards finding a way to make our situation work." The fact that he was handsome might have helped with that willingness.

"perhaps we could hang a cloth," Romeo agreed. "Or, should you come to trust me, simply learn to be careful to protect each other's modesty. I too am willing to make it work."

"I have spent many years sharing living space with my father. This situation is obviously very different," Teyla said. "But I have learned how to keep my modesty safe."

"Good, good," Romeo said. "I have never needed to share, which may be my fault as a roommate. Let me know should I bother you."

"I am sure you will make an excellent roommate," she said. "Are you from a place near here?"

Romeo shook his head. "Verona Beach, in California. And you?"

"I am from Athos," she said. "It is very far away, I think. Is California far from here?"

"In Greece?" Romeo asked, hearing "Athens." "It's a goodly distance, I think. Across the country."

Teyla wasn't sure how to explain the galaxy issue, and Greece sounded like as good a place to come from as any, so she simply nodded. "I am hoping that I will not find it difficult to be away from home."

"We can try to adjust to our new surroundings together," Romeo promised. "Did you also get a new sibling? Mine is called John Sheppard."

"Yes, I did," Teyla said happily. "Mine is called Jeff Murdock. He seems a bit strange, but very nice."
