Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[~~WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE.~~ OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

More students. More 'special' students who were going to make her drink enough coffee that it could possibly replace the Spice in her DNA. Ghanima was seriously tempted to take notes and leave them at the station for Renee. Just because.

Ghanima summoned the Other Memory of Mohiam to the forefront, watching the students (and teachers) through the lens of the other woman's Truthsayer abilities. Time to see what the ~~fresh meat~~ newcomers were made of.

"Having fun?" Aly asked, a smirk playing over her face.

Ghanima waved a little slip of paper with a name on it in her teaching-buddy's direction. "Miss Aly. I don't suppose you know where this came from, do you?"

"Miss Ghani," Aly replied, smirk changing into an easy smile. "The office, I'd assume. Looks like their paper quality."

"The office," she said dryly, "Yes, of course. I'm sure the office thought I would make a fabulous teaching coach. Is everyone on this island completely out of their mind?"

"Oh yes," she replied, just as dryly. "We're all mad here. There'll be a tea party with the Mad Hatter in just a moment."

"I'll only go if the Dormouse is there," she replied, "I dislike men or hatters with better hats than mine."

"So are you lurking back here to profile the students, the teachers, or both?" Ghanima turned her gaze back to the students, mentally cataloging and filing. "Dear lord, look at them all. Is this normal?"

"We'll make it a prequisite. No hats more fabulous than yours. Also, the Dormouse," Aly chuckled. She looked back out at the throngs, tilting her head as she noticed some of what she was hoping to see. "Just think of what you missed by coming in the middle of last term. They always do this. It's like a swarm of beetles coming home to land."

"A Lady has to have standards, you know," Ghani informed Aly jokingly. "Now that's a frightening thought, students as a swarm of locusts. Hopefully they aren't quite that destructive, otherwise I might have to drag Renee off-island to keep her from shaking them so hard their brains rattle."

"Keep that up, and I'm going to call you Grandmother," Aly told her. "They usually have good intentions at heart. Not that it keeps the Sheriff's department any less frustrated." She thought for a moment. "But if Detective Montoya needs to shake people, I have candidates."

"Please, don't give her an excuse. I'd like my students to start the term with a minimum of brain damage."

"You prefer to inflict all the brain damage yourself?" Aly teased.

"I prefer to call it 'expanding their horizons'. If their brains break in the process, it's not my fault that they are so limited." Ghanima shrugged eloquently, not bothering to hide the smirk. "That's why I started with a simple class like mythology. If they can't survive that, they won't survive anything else the world throws at them."

"Those poor little darlings," Aly deadpanned. "They'll never recover."

"They're children, that means they're resilient little things. I'm sure they'll bounce back in no time after an appropriate amount of, what's the word, um, emo? Yes?"

"As long as their emo doesn't take the form of trying to swallow the island or end the world, I'm happy."

"If they didn't try to end the world, their classmates would get bored. What's high school without a little drama?" Ghani grinned to show she was joking, mostly, as she turned her gaze towards the new teachers. "I don't suppose you know which one of those is the one the 'office' accidentally assigned me?"

"I don't think it was an accident," Aly pointed out. "But I don't see him here yet ~~because the player is at work~~. I'm sure you'll do an excellent job."

One of said students is wandering around on his own, checking everything out.

Ooo...One that wasn't afraid to wander too near the teachers! How intriguing!

Ghanima diverted a portion of her attention to watching him, cataloging how he moved. New. Definitely new.

New, and not showing any nervousness with it.

Wariness, but not nervousness.

Wary was healthy, especially with this crowd.

Mohiam started setting up an unholy racket, so Ghani firmly closed the door to the Other Memory, unwilling to deal with the ego-imprint's tantrum. Instead she watched the boy through her own eyes for a bit, quietly impressed with his willingness to brave the lion's den of teachers.

"Looking for anyone in-particular?"

If asked, he'd say he wasn't afraid of anything. It's not quite true, but close enough in Fandom.

"Just looking", he answers, turning to size her up.

"You'll look to like, if looking liking moves?" she asked rhetorically, smiling. "Anything interesting?"

"It's all more interesting than home", he says with a shrug. "New place, and all."
