Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

"...Yes," Jeff said, meekly. She was supposed to be a sibling and talking about scrabble faces was really a horrible idea all around. Never to mention them again. "Sorry about the scrabble faces."

"It's all right, really. " she said. "Do you like it here? I must admit, I'm still trying to decide if I should stay."

"My mother's not here," Jeff offered, "And my girlfriend is, so generally speaking I'd say it measures somewhere up there on the okay scale."

"You...like not being with your mother?" Teyla guessed.

"That's one way of putting it," Jeff said, resignedly. "Really, it's not so much enjoyment as a sort of caveman-like sense of survival." He gestured emphatically to underscore the point.

"This is a good place for survival then?" Teyla asked, glancing around. "There are many more people here than I would have imagined."

"Depends on how you put 'survival', really," Jeff said, and was so not staring at her face. Her face. Her breasts.

Oh, this was going to be difficult. "...There's dinosaurs!" he blurted. "With breasts!"

Teyla followed his line of sight, and crossed her arms over her chest. It would not do to get violent when she hadn't been here for that long.

"What are dinosaurs?" she asked.

"Really big things," Jeff said, wisely. "...I don't know, I got bitten by my dog and passed out for a bit, but my roommate fought a couple even if one sneezed on him."

He tried very hard not to mutter the word 'breasts' under his breath, and focused on the word 'sister' instead.

"Oh, there are people skilled in combat here?" Teyla asked, starting to feel like maybe, possibly, she was managing to understand the important parts of what Jeff was saying.

"Peter knows how to use a sword," Jeff provided. Then paused. "A real sword! Not like a trouser sword or anything, that would just be-- unsiblingish! And you're my sister!" He reached over for an encouraging (and mildly overenthusiastic) shoulder pat. It was a patting kind of day.

"I assumed you meant a real sword," Teyla said, starting to smirk. "I must admit, I have never had a sibling before."

"We take our siblings very seriously!"

The general we was really more particular to anyone within line of siblingry of Chad, but Jeff had conveniently forgotten about that. "You'll have to meet Chad. And Ino! She's my little sister, too. You two can be little sisters together! Except I suppose one of you would have to be the older one..."

"Perhaps she can be the older one, since she was here first," Teyla said, as thoughts of leaving her father behind at home started to drift away. "I suppose I am lucky, being assigned to an experienced sibling." Fascination with breasts aside, of course.

Jeff just gave her a thumbs up. "Exactly!" he said, "And Chad is our big brother! It's an entire network of siblingry, and we take care of our own!"

Teyla had finally gone through the curtain of Jeff's mind, and come out on the other side, shaped like a sisterly blob of sister.

Surprisingly, Teyla found herself grinning at Jeff. "You have made me feel much, much better about being here," she said. "I am very grateful for that."

Jeff gave her the goofy Murdock grin. "If you need any help," he said, "Just ask me or Ino or Chad or John. If you ask anyone else you'll have to tell them about the siblingry, though, I'm certain they'll all get it in no time at all."

"I appreciate that very much," Teyla said. "And I'll be sure to try to track everyone else down to meet them."
