Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

Of course Harriet was there, though she never did get her tea. And she might have been standing where she could keep an unobtrusive eye on Glitch. Just in case.

Harriet smiled at the boy as he was wandering past. "Are you finding everything all right?"

"Pretty much", he answers with a wary half-smile in return. "I was just looking."

"Take all the time you like to look around," she told him. "That's what the first day is for. I'm Miss Jones, Dean of Students here at the school." Harriet seemed a bit informal to use when meeting a student.

"Michael Guerin", he returns. "Just got in today... but you knew that."

"I did," she replied. "Today's the day for it. Welcome to Fandom High, Mr Guerin. It's a bit different here, but you'll get used to it, and my office is always open if you find yourself in need of some assistance."

"Thanks. I think I like it better than Roswell already."

"Yeah, it is." He pulls a slight face. "Not worth visiting, unless you like tourist traps."

"I'll keep that in mind." Harriet gave him a small smile. "I think you'll enjoy Fandom. Just remember that you get out of your time here what you put into it." She paused. "And that gremlins should be avoided."

"Yeah, my sister told me that. Uh - Isabel, do you know her?"

"Isabel Evans?" She thought for a moment. "She's a senior, I believe. How nice for you to have family here."

Happening to glance over, Harriet didn't quite roll her eyes. "Whatever's going on in that head of yours, Professor Stinson, do stop."

Harriet lifted one eyebrow with glacial precision and gave him a look. "I know you can't have been standing in the sun too long, given today's weather. Perhaps you fell and hit your head?"

"I've been basking in the glow of hot cougar," Barney said, licking his lower lip. Okay, so maybe he was hornier than usual.

"Perhaps you're going to fall and hit your head," she said, the other eyebrow lifting. "Possibly quite soon."

Harriet looked momentarily outraged, and then she began to laugh so hard it nearly brought tears to her eyes.

Barney was perplexed, women didn't laugh at his lines. "If you don't have a headboard, I do," he offered. "Besides, it's not like you'd have to travel far to get home afterwards." He found many positives to this cougar.

Harriet had to sit down, wiping her eyes as she tried to stop laughing. "Oh, Professor Stinson. I think we need to keep you here. I honestly can't remember the last time I was this entertained."

Harriet just stood up and patted him on the head, smiling fondly at him, as if he were a child who'd just proudly presented her with something sticky. "Of course you do."
