Lunchtime finds Bridge poking somewhat halfheartedly at a tuna sandwich. Those who work here are welcome to stop by, library's closed for anyone else.

So this would be a good time for his phone to ring, right?

Why yes indeed it would. "Hey! What's up?" he says after scrambling to retrieve said phone from his pocket and flipping it open.

"You do know you're crazy for limping in there, right?"

"It was really more of a hobble than a limp," Bridge points out. "I mean, I had crutches."

"You also know if Mel hadn't caught him I'd be tying you up to stop you, right?"

"Not that the tying-up is an entirely unappealing idea in times of non-crisis but if that were the case I'd just ask Bel if he could give me a lift." Why he didn't just do that anyway is anyone's guess.

Except Xander's. "....Why didn't you just do that anyway?"

"Well, I didn't want to bother anyone if I could manage it myself," Bridge says with a shrug. Not that Xander could actually see the shrugging what with being on the phone.

"Dumbass," he says fondly.

"Being courteous and being dumb are not the same things," Bridge replies.

"They can be, if being courteous makes you be limpy too."

"Going by how this worked last time, I'll be fine in no time," Bridge says easily.

"...Which last time was that?" Because that's gonna help him not be a worrywart.

"Um, the time I got a troll thrown at me?"

"Oh, the time you got a troll thrown at you. Well, pfft, that happens." It might be evident that he's being sarcastic. Then again, he might want to consider who he's talking to.

"Really?" Bridge says, surprised. "Not that I know much about trolls. The ones in my reality are more likely to trap you in jars or hypnotize you with accordion music than throw their slightly shorter friends at you."

"The ones in my reality don't have slightly shorter friends. They mostly drink grog and squish tiny human people."

"...I think I'll take trapped in a jar over that any day."

"I might take the getting squished over the accordian music, though."

"We could just stay away from trolls altogether?" Bridge suggests. "Especially the kind who were here last year because the girl trolls would try and steal you and that'd make me sad."

Xander's experience with trolls extends to one very large male one who used to be human before he cheated on Xander's first prom date. "There are girl trolls?"

Come to think of it, Isabel may have mentioned something about that at some point.

"Yes. And they tried to kidnap all the good-looking guys and keep them for themselves and I'd throw my crutches at them if I had to if they tried to get you even if I couldn't exactly fault their taste."

That would be Xander laughing. "And then you wouldn't be able to get away when they went after you," he points out.

"Maybe," Bridge says. "But if I didn't actually succeed in driving them away from you then at least I'd be *with* you and I'm okay with that. Or, if you did escape I know you'd come back later to rescue me," he points out logically.
