Prophecy in Theory and Practice, Tuesday Second Period (12/11)

Along with the usual pastries and hot drinks, the table in the center of the room was piled with review materials and all manner of fortune-telling paraphenalia.

"We're nearly to the end of our term, so today we'll review for your final exam. You have a couple of choices for how you spend your class period today. You may work on your own or with your classmates, reviewing the handouts I've provided and your own notes or practicing the prophecy methods we've done in class. Your final will include a practical application element, so I suggest that you make certain you feel relatively proficient in at least two of the hands-on methods we've covered. I am available, of course, for any questions you might have."

"You're right, we can't. Whose to say what or how we will really be in twenty years. I could be... well, who knows for sure."

Annette blushed and she was so not trying to think about A.J. being hot. "I... He'd probably be glad to know you think so, Andrew." She didn't want to think about any rules because there were all sorts of rules really - hadn't she just been fighting with A.J. over rules? Rules were everywhere.

Dammit.

"Well, I can consult the crystal ball if you like. I'm sure I'll discover a very confident, successful, and happy Annette twenty years in the future. If you're still single, it will be by choice, and you'll have a whole slew of men lined up to wine and dine you."

Andrew quirked an eyebrow and asked, "Do you want a family?"

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
She laughed lightly. "You don't need to consult the crystal ball. I think I'll leave my future to chance and just see what it gives me."

Andrew's question made her think for a moment before she replied, "Yes, I know I want a family. I would like to have at least two children."

"Do you have names picked out? I think Halfrek is a cool girl's name. It has some very powerful connotations. I have whole lists of names written down if you want to see them."

He really did.

"Boy, you really have this all thought out, don't you?" Annette asked with a lift of her brow. "I... think I know what I will a son if I have one and Andrew, are you planning to have a family so soon?" She thought it best not to mention what she thought of the name Halfrek.

"Soon? No, don't be ridiculous. I just believe in being prepared. You never know when you might turn around and, surprise, there's a baby."

Andrew laughed. "Okay, not really. But you know, I think of these things - what will my wedding be like, what's the best floor plan for a family of four or five, how big is too big for a jungle gym. Just normal teenage daydreamy stuff."

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Annette's head was spinning.

"A lot of teenage boys might disagree with you. Take my boyfriend for instance; he wants to stay as far away from marriage and kids and all that, as he can. We'll be breaking up at graduation. I... guess."

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really? Why do you stay with him if you can't picture it lasting past graduation?" Andrew asked, perplexed.

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
She had no ready reasonable answer to that.

"He doesn't like to talk about breaking up."

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
That was a sound enough reason for Andrew. "Okay."

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Annette tapped her fingers to her notebook.

"So... I was a puppy last week. I was cute even."

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"I fear the day I turn into an animal," Andrew admitted. "I mean, one of my friends is going to have to clean up after me if I mess on the floor, you know? That is not a thought that makes me comfortable."

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ew." It didn't make Annette have yummy thoughts either. "Dick... took care of me. Said I was yappy." She didn't need or want to think about the messing on the floor. She was sure she was very ladylike about the whole thing.

"I... let him know when I had to go," she just had to clarify.

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure you did," Andrew said with a grin.

"Are there pictures? I should very much like to see the cuteness that was you as a puppy. I remember puppy A.J. from the play. He was adorable!"

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Annette grinned and pulled out a polaroid. She had made Dick take a picture of her. "See? I was little too. How can a tiny cute thing be yappy? I don't get it."

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Annette! Turn back into a puppy now! I demand it." Andrew gaped at the cuteness that was this puppy.

"I'm sure Dick was exaggerating."

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
She giggled. "See? Cute!"

Sighing she said, "Unfortunately Dick never exaggerates."

"Well, I guess it's good to know you've got an honest boyfriend," Andrew replied.

"Speaking of, Neil and I might be going away over break. He suggested finding a ski resort and shacking up for a week."

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah..." she commented off-handedly.

Then her eyes lit up. "Oooh! How nice for you two! I would love to enjoy something like that! I bet you will have a great time."

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think we will. I'm, um, going for a room with a jacuzzi tub." Andrew smiled a little deviously.

"Neil is apparently really good at the skiing thing, but I just want to be prepared, you know, in case conditions dictate spending most of our time indoors."

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"How grand," she said with cute lift of her brow. "Nothing says ski resort like a hot jacuzzi tub in your room."

She nodded. "He strikes me as one to be good at skiing. He's a great dancer so I can see him skiing really very well." Annette blushed slightly. "Right. Just in case. Good to think ahead like that Andrew."

"Is it bad that I'm hoping for like a terrific blizzard or a horrible ice storm, so we can avoid the slopes all together?" Andrew had high hopes for this Christmas break.

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Annette gave him a sweet smile. "No. Not at all... I would think Neil would appreciate your thoughtfulness did he know what you were thinking." Yes, because Annette considered a blizzard or ice storm thoughtful if it kept two people indoors to do... nice things together.

How come Dick never ever asked her to do anything?

Something was just way wrong with her.

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you have any plans for the break? Heading home to be with the family?" Andrew asked.

Re: Study, Chat, Etc.

[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com 2007-12-11 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not sure yet, but most likely, yes," she answered. "I'm an only child so I imagine my parents will be very upset with me if I don't go home."
