Communication - Period 5 - Thursday Dec 6

Packs of playing cards were laid out around the classroom.

Mohinder looked up from shuffling a deck, laying it down in a spread on his desk.

"Good afternoon," Mohinder nodded at the class. "Today we'll be looking at two different aspects of unconscious communication."

"Often an emotional response will trigger a small fragment of behaviour - someone may twist their wedding ring when lying about an affair, or a poker player may blink when they have poor cards." Mohinder continued on about tells before breaking off.

"Alternatively, people may be affected by subliminal messages of which they are not even aware. That the subconscious receives directly, bypassing the filter of the conscious mind. The effectiveness of this persuasion technique is debatable, either in advertisement or propoganda." Mohinder paused. "Elaborate conspiracy theories aside, it is extremely unlikely that subliminal messages have a significant effect on the behaviour of a group."

"Take these cards, play and study each other's tells. What are you saying unconsciously? Can you control it?"

Awaiting OCD is up.

Cassandra looked over, eyebrow rising. This should be really easy considering she already picked up on non-verbal signals.

"Want to play?" Carmela asks, picking up a deck of cards and shuffling them.

"Sure," she grinned. "Though you should know I'm pretty good at this." Well... not the poker part. She didn't actually know the rules for that.

"I've played against my brother and that's about it," Carmela says with a shrug. "So I guess we're... really not evenly matched at all, but it's not like the fate of the world's at stake, or anything."

"You'll have to teach me the rules," Cassandra said with a shrug. She'd seen a few games played, but that didn't mean she knew how it worked.
