Communication - Period 5 - Thursday Dec 6

Packs of playing cards were laid out around the classroom.

Mohinder looked up from shuffling a deck, laying it down in a spread on his desk.

"Good afternoon," Mohinder nodded at the class. "Today we'll be looking at two different aspects of unconscious communication."

"Often an emotional response will trigger a small fragment of behaviour - someone may twist their wedding ring when lying about an affair, or a poker player may blink when they have poor cards." Mohinder continued on about tells before breaking off.

"Alternatively, people may be affected by subliminal messages of which they are not even aware. That the subconscious receives directly, bypassing the filter of the conscious mind. The effectiveness of this persuasion technique is debatable, either in advertisement or propoganda." Mohinder paused. "Elaborate conspiracy theories aside, it is extremely unlikely that subliminal messages have a significant effect on the behaviour of a group."

"Take these cards, play and study each other's tells. What are you saying unconsciously? Can you control it?"

Awaiting OCD is up.

As usual, Hoshi was taking notes. This could be useful for those times she came across languages that were difficult to translate.

Poker and Hoshi? It was a match made in heaven.

Jack was kinda confused. How could you communicate if you were knocked out?

Jack quirked his eyebrow over at Hoshi. Was it a tell or was it a question?

Carmela looks at the instructions and pouts. It'd probably be considered cheating to just *ask* the deck what her opponents' hands happened to be, wouldn't it?

Hoshi looked over at Jack as if to say, "Put your money where your mouth is."

He tilted his head as if to say, "It's already brougtened, sweet thaang."

Hoshi didn't like being called "sweet thaang" even if it was nonverbal. She looked at the stack of chips Jack left on the table and doubles it, as if to say, "Bring it on."

Jack quirked his other eyebrow, and added half of another stack, as if to say, "Is that all you got?"

Hoshi had an "oh really?" expression on her face as she added another stack and an half of chips.

Jack matched her expression with his best "Ya Rly Yeah, Really" face. And put in two full stacks.

Hoshi added all of her chips. "Let's see those cards," she commanded.

"Cards? We were supposed to pick up cards?" he asked innocently. Really innocently. Really. And pushed in all his chips.
