"Due to a lot of missed time," Jean-Paul began, and his expression betrayed a touch of pity for his students, "this week we will be catching up. A lot. I cannot lecture you on three weeks' of material in one--well, I could, but you would not understand a word I said--so. At your desks, you will find information and worksheets on trigonometry, geometry, and variables. All of this is due next week. Bonne chance."

Rodney had never paid much attention to Bart Allen. Since math was a subject he enjoyed and his girlfriend was in the class, he had mostly ignored the hyperactive boy.

Today, however, he couldn't help but notice Bart's absence. The class felt completely wrong without his twitchy presence.

Through almost the whole of class, Adah just say there, frowning as she leaned slightly in with an ear turned toward the teacher and her eyes locked into nothing else but her own concentration. No matter how hard to tried to focus, it was still all mush to her. But at least some things, small things, were starting to sound somewhat familiar, even if she didn't know what they meant.

"It's not that bad," Rodney tried to console. He wasn't very good at it. "Once you understand the formulas, the rest is easy." For him, at least.

"It is!" Charlie insisted. "There's so much of it, and I only understand about half, and I'm going to have to repeat this whole semester!"

Rodney rolled his eyes. "You're not going to have to repeat the semester. Just start with what you already know and then I'll help you figure out the new stuff," he promised. Rodney was always surprised when he was the one doing the reassuring, but he had the whole tutor thing down.

"Okay. Okay. Okay." She took a breath. "Geometry first, that's not so hard. I do know that." She glared at Jean-Paul. "I just wish we didn't have so *much* of it."

"I suppose it can't be helped," Rodney shrugged. "The semester is almost over and there's a lot we haven't covered. We might not have time to even get into calculus." And yes, that was disappointment in his voice.

Adah blinked, and stared down at the assignment, all the papers. After she stared for a while, she started to idly flip through it. Mostly, she was looking at the geometrical shapes, feeling some sort of relief that she at least recognized those. Any other sign of distress over the fact that she didn't understand anything else, not by fault of ability in mathematics, but by fault of ability to recognize printed word as much as spoken word, was nonexistent. Her face remained a complete blank that could easily be mistaken for apathy.
