Sam had a bigger cup of coffee than usual with him as he went to open the library, in case he needed the extra caffeine to get back into the swing of things after the long vacation weekend.

Dean nodded in agreement then frowned. Sammy had given in way too fast. "You're just saying that to humour me, aren't you?"

Sam took the opportunity to eat some more, to give himself time to answer. "Sort of? What, I'm not allowed to humor you when you bring me food?"

Dean's frown deepened. "I don't know. Maybe? But not if it's because you're doing it because you think I'm going to self destruct or something if you don't."

"I just feel bad saying bad things about Alec right now, that's all," Sam replied.

"He's not dead, y'know," Dean pointed out. "Just... away. There's no rule about speaking ill of those who are away."

"Yeah, but I don't want to make you think about him being away," Sam explained.

Dean shook his head. "Hate to break it to you, Sammy, but I'm pretty much thinking about that already. I even am sorta writing to him."

"You are?" It was possible that the idea of Dean doing writing he didn't have to was a little strange to Sam.

"Yeah. Kinda like a journal type thing." He shrugged. "Let's me yell at him about missing things as they happen."

"Are you going to show it to him when he comes back? Or is it just for your own use?"

"The plan now is to show it to him." Dean smiled a little. "That way he gets however many weeks of me being exasperated at him in concentrated form."

"And maybe he'll realize what a mistake it was to leave you behind?" Sam added.

"Hopefully he'll have figured that out before he gets back, but yeah," Dean said.

"Maybe he won't have, if he managed to not get into any trouble," Sam pointed out.

"Then I'll have to explain it to him using very small words."

"Luckily, you're good at that," Sam said, smirking.

"Had lots of practice," Dean said, smirking back.

"Can't imagine why," Sam said. "It's not like you've had someone to practice on for years."

"Not at all," Dean said grinning at him.

"It'll be good to let you get that out on Alec instead of me," Sam teased.

"Yeah, I can go bug him instead of bugging you all the time when I'm bored," Dean teased.

"I don't mind that much if you bug me when you're bored," Sam said, lying just a little.

"Not when I'm feeding you maybe."

"Well, the food definitely helps," Sam admitted. "But I don't mind even if there's no food involved."

"Because there's always the potential for food," Dean teased.
