Library [11/26]

Sam had a bigger cup of coffee than usual with him as he went to open the library, in case he needed the extra caffeine to get back into the swing of things after the long vacation weekend.

"Yeah, there's only a few weeks left in the semester," Sam said, before pausing for a moment. "Okay, maybe that's not what most people would consider close."

"Oh, right," Peter said, shrugging it off. "I knew that."

"I worry about this kind of stuff way earlier than I should," Sam said. "It's one of the downsides to being a geek."

"Lucky for you I'll be your friend anyway," Peter teased. He fiddled with the cardboard sleeve around his coffee cup. "So I've got a date tomorrow."

"Oh, really?" Sam asked, smiling softly. Dates were a good thing, after all. "Who are you going out with?"

"Ronan," Peter said. "Apparently he wants to make me dinner. So that'll be tomorrow."

"That should be fun. Ronan's a really good cook," Sam said.

"I think he's going to try to make Italian to impress me," Peter said. "I almost don't have the heart to tell him it's not like there's some ancient family recipe he's gotta go up against."

"So don't tell him, and see what he comes up with," Sam replied. "It'll be impressive no matter what, I'm sure."

"Good." Sam's smile widened a bit. "I hope it goes well for you."

"Well, if my streak's any indication at least I'll get a nice friend out of it," Peter said, shrugging philosophically.

Peter raked his hair out of his eyes. "Right guy or girl's bound to be out there somewhere."

"Yeah, definitely," Sam agreed. "You've just got to find them. Maybe Ronan will be the right one."
