Library [11/19]

Sam had very fond memories of working in the library during high school. When he remembered it was Monday, the day he'd usually had his shift, he headed down to the library and situated himself behind the desk with a small stack of books, and a look that dared anyone to try to get him to leave.

"Makes me wonder if Nathan's doing the same to me somewhere in the future," Peter said.

"Getting into more trouble than usual, or keeping you from doing the same?" Sam asked.

"Oh I know he's keeping me from doing the same," Peter said. "It's if he's trying to even the scales."

Sam snickered. "I have a hard time imagining Nathan and trouble together, unless it somehow involves you. No offense," he said.

Peter heaved a put-upon sigh. "No hope at all that I could come across as the responsible son?"

"Only to someone who's never met you before."

Peter laughed. "Well I'll know to try that on strangers now."

"You should," Sam replied. "If only for the entertainment value when they realize what you're really like."

"Oh yeah?" Peter said, still laughing. "And how's that?"

"A magnet for trouble who makes it impossible to stay mad at him for more than about a minute and a half," Sam said.

"A whole minute and a half?" Peter replied. "Man. I've got to work harder."

Sam made a playful groan and rolled his eyes. "I shouldn't have said anything. Now you'll be unstoppable when you get older."

"I'm not yet?" Peter teased. "Clearly I've been slacking."

"Those who know you well manage to resist your charms. Sometimes," Sam teased.

"Lucky for me I enjoy a challenge," Peter said.

"Lucky for you we all enjoy the challenge of being around you," Sam replied.

"A challenge?" Peter gave him sad eyes. "A minute ago I was charming."

"You're a charming challenge," Sam said. "It all goes together in the same package."

"Lucky for me then," Peter said as he leaned against the counter. "Or is that lucky for the folks who have to deal with me?"

"Both, I suppose," Sam said, laughing. "Lucky for you that we can deal with you without wanting to shake you."

"Shaking was an option?" Peter asked, quirking his eyebrows in a challenge. "Big words for a guy whose only power is visions."

Sam smirked with just as much of a challenge in return. "Not anymore it's not."

Okay, that caught Peter off-guard. "Really? What'd you get?"

"There were other people like me," Sam explained. "I can do what they could do. Super strength, moving things, reading minds..."

Peter made a scoffing sound. "You big copycat."
