Library [Sunday, 11-18]

There was someone unfamiliar in the library today, making himself familiar with books he'd long thought forgotten. It was still quiet, still had that same old feeling and those same old feelings.

He missed this library.

[Yes, there was a post earlier but I couldn't resist aging him up.]

"Still like spinning in chairs?" River didn't smile, but she remembered the feeling of happiness the simple action of spinning around in a chair used to bring her.

"On occasion," Lee said, slowing his spin to an eventual stop. "Chair in my office doesn't do this."

He stood up and gave her a tiny smile. "River."

"Should get that sorted. An office needs a spinning chair." She hadn't got an office, but at least she had a ship. "Hello, Lee."

"Hello," he replied, nodding. "Honestly, I don't spend a lot of time in my office unless I fall asleep there. Mostly in CIC. Or in a Viper. Or...well, anywhere but my office. Office means paperwork."

"An advantage of running an illegal business in a system close to anarchy. Less paperwork." There was a small smile. "Got a bigger ship now than I used to at school, but I think yours is bigger."

"Took over for my father when he died," Lee told her, nodding. "Galactica doesn't seem to want to die, you know. It's a hunk of junk but it still runs. You been breaking the law since I last saw you?"

"Most days. And one should never underestimate the junk," she said. "More reliable than you'd expect."

"It's junk," he said and smiled, "but it's reliable junk. Saved my ass more times than I can remember. Law breaking a good business?"

"On a good day," River replied with a grin. "Better than being stuck on some planet."

"We can agree on that," Lee said with a small nod. "Everything else been okay for you?"

River shrugged. "Matter of definition. And you?"

"Still alive," he said and shrugged. "That's enough for right now."

"I suppose." She smiled sadly. "Seen Adah here?"

"Uh, no," he said and shook his head. "I...wow. No, I haven't."

"Me neither." She fell silent for a moment. "I shouldn't distract you from your chair spinning."

"You're not," Lee said, shaking his head. "Have you kept in contact with her?"

"Should have," River replied quietly, staring down at the floor. "Didn't."

"Yeah, me either," he said, rolling his neck to work out the sudden tension. "Things got bad at home."

"Same here. Took all my attention. Didn't deserve it." She glanced around the room that looked exactly like she remembered it.

"Sorry to hear that," Lee said, smiling sadly. "Sounds like a story to have over several glasses of ambrosia."

River chuckled. "Tell you mine of you tell me yours. Ambrosia?"

"Alcohol," he clarified. "And I've got a lot. Like a grab bag of stories."

"Drinks and stories. Good combination." She still couldn't take alcohol very well, but she had learnt to hide it. "Sounds like a plan."

"Good," he said, smiling again. "Good. I haven't gotten good and drunk in awhile. Probably about time I did."

River let out a laugh. "Neither have I, so yes, about time. I'd be surprised if they served ambrosia though."
