Library: Late Thursday Night

Karal didn't think of it as keeping the library open late. He thought of it as opening it early for tomorrow.

Either way, he wasn't leaving.

The tables were littered with a bizarre combination of the magic and the absolutely mundane. Texts on spells and magic mixed with old records, minutes of town meetings, planning permits, building codes, sewerage and water maps, all the boring minutiae that held the history of a town.

There was also coffee and strong, black tea, to keep tired minds and bodies awake and alert.

[ooc: For our late night researchers only, thanks! Wee OCD is coming up.]

Willow beamed. "Thank you! I'm surprised that no one at those meetings ever thought of color coding."

"Apparently dog zoning is what we in the modern parlance would call 'siriz bizniz'," Willow said. She flipped through some of her notes. "You would not believe some of the implied naughty language that came up during the debates on the issue. Which, one must admit, in a town with reporter squirrels, does make a kind of sense."

"Oh no! They're very sweet," Willow said. "Highly dedicated, and their handwriting isn't nearly as bad as you'd think. Though in their case I guess we'd call it pawwriting, but still either way you could see why unzoned dogs could cause havoc in their fluffy-tailed lives. Either that or some folks at these meetings could've really used a chess club membership or maybe a stamp collection, because man do they go on and on about the issue."

"Of course!" Willow said. "I used to do radio. I like to think we've remained friends, if not co-workers. And you know? I don't want to be all Judgy McStereotyper but man if I was going to use something to make my life important? And I was limited to one thing? I would not chose dog zoning. Calculus maybe, but only 'cause it's fun."

"I feel certain they would've slipped it into their notes," Willow said. "But on the other hand one should never assume things because that's how group projects end up missing vital pieces and you don't find out until you're in front of the teacher and your diorama has no roof and suddenly you're facing a B and it's not even your fault!"

Willow was clearly speaking from a place of childhood trauma.

"I can do it," Willow said. "It'll be good to touch base and make sure they're okay what with all the sad news they've been reporting."

"It's best to leave no stone unturned," Willow said. "Though right now we'll keep that strictly metaphorical until our other attempts at research have not panned out."
