Library [11/15]

Thursday arrived early again on Thursday, setting Friday up in her office. After yesterday's news, she was more than concerned and kept checking on Friday more than was really necessary. She broke from the usual library rules today by making sure there was plenty of coffee, other drinks and food to go around for anyone who wanted to stop by.

Cable arrived early (or, perhaps, had never quite entirely left the area). He was in during most of the morning, sometimes doing his own research, sometimes strolling around to keep an eye out for others.

He may have left for the clinic upon occasion.

Naomi returned to the library in the morning to continue helping with the research.

After spending his morning in the clinic, Sam was back to do more research. He might not have been getting much done though, with how he was holding a book, but staring off into space.

After the clinic, Karal came back to the library. Something like the mage storms in his world, which had swept across the land, twisting people and animals into vicious beasts, was still the only idea he had.

He kept looking for something similar, something magical - an event, an artifact, anything - that would cause a normal illness to change into a monster.

Adah really wanted to be able to make it to the clinic today to possibly harrass someone into letting her have some actual samples to work with, but, clutching onto a cup of coffee, she wasn't sure if she wanted to walk that far. Oh, it was definitely the research that was wearing her down and not the thing they were researching. She'd definitely know the difference, and she knew that because she was so tired from all the research was exactly why she shouldn't go to the clinic because it left her way too vunerlable.

So. Books. Lots and lots of them and, eventually, hopefully, maybe something else, something more...

"Anything?"

There was Cable, passing by with serious gravitas and his command voice firmly in place.

"Nothing, sir." The sir was automatic response to anyone who sounded like that, and Karal looked up from his current book. "I thought, I though it might be something like what's happening in my world, but there's nothing."

That got a single nod. "We're missing something," Cable said, glancing over towards where Adah was seated, his eyes narrowing faintly. "Something obvious." And couldn't help but add, "But what else is new..."

"Everything's obvious once you know the answer," he replied, rubbing his forehead with the back of his hand, "once you find the key. Until then it's just beating your head against the door, trying to get in."

"I've got a very hard head."

As many had told him before.

And with that, Cable moved on.

It was oddly heartening, and Karal returned to his reading with a renewed determination.

Even if all he achieved was narrowing down what it was by determining what it was not, that would help.

Luke had spent all night in the clinic and only left because his father yelled at him for being too hover-y.

This was as good a way as any to help out.

He found himself a quiet corner and began searching through really, really old, really dusty medical journals.

Artoo stood next to the table and warbled worriedly.

Peter was back at the books and couldn't help but think he was almost at something. Isabel mentioned something about how this might come from the island. Maybe she wasn't far off.

Peter pushed the book he was looking at away and said, "Huh."

Well.

That was an encouraging noise.

Cable looked up from where he was sitting, regarding Peter with some level of determined curiosity. "'Huh'?" he asked.

You could pry Willow's books out of her cold, dead hand.

Well actually you couldn't because she was alive, but you get the idea. Research-fu and Willow were very matchy things.

"Just a fairly random thought, probably nothing," Peter said. "But pretty much every building on the island is really old. Back home you hear about things like asbestos being all over old buildings and people getting sick from that at least once every year or two. Maybe it's something like that. A magical asbestos or something."

Re: Morning

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2007-11-15 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"'Magical asbestos'." A mild bit skeptical there, at first. Raised eyebrows, dry expression and all.

Then again, he knew crazy things. And obvious things that were hard to find. Any hunch was worth following, at this point. "This school blew up." He'd heard that much on the radio.

"Yeah, it did. In a giant fireball of school," Peter said. "We have a locker that's like a black hole. We have a section here in the library that can actually kinda possess people. When the school blew up, who knows what kind of nutty things might have been spread around the island?"

It was nice to know these kind of things about your new place of residence.

Several years around Deadpool made his mind offer him a most bizarre tangent to go on. He had to blink to rid himself of it.

On the outside, Cable just looked at him. "We'll have to check the records." Because this was so totally his research team. Hadn't you gotten the memo?
