Library [Sunday, 11-4]

Lee's back in the library today and he's looking decidedly chipper. Well, he's not brooding and he is smiling. He considered that pretty damn chipper.

He's propped up at the desk, a book in his lap and some orange juice in his hand, relaxing and feeling very lazy.

Like clockwork. An interesting phrase. Krowk cloce kil. Adah liked it much better backwards than forwards, which was contrary to the phrases, which is why, once everything was added up, she would continue to vary when she made her appearance at the library on Sundays, limping herself in during the afternoon today. And, besides, her body was perhaps still a bit sore with her at the moment, so she made it up to her by sleeping in today. And yesterday. The indulgence was easy when she didn't have to worry about being slapped with one of the Sloth Verses.

She leaned on the desk, trying to peer at the book and figure out what the Eel was reading.

Giving a soft smile back, Adah lifted her hand, fingers wiggling a little in substitute of a wave. And then the fingers died down, soldiers falling one by one until a solitary one was left standing to signal to the Eel to wait a moment while she dug her notebook and a pen from her bag. True, she never minded actually talking to him, either, but she still felt strongly that the written communication would always be her favorite when she had more to say than what she could convey with body language. She quickly wrote something down and passed it along to him.

"I believe that, as a rule, books about fish have to be boring."

"I hear a net and a stick of dynamite work miracles," Adah offered, as if they could even suggest it to the fisherman in question, and considering explaining to the Eel the process of fire hunting, which she'd hope would be less boring and significantly shorter. "And I'm doing well, thank you. Lazy weekends, sometimes the best kind. Yourself?"

Adah's smile grew a little. "You know, most people don't exactly look forward to the end of the weekend."

Adah rather liked the smugness of his smile; it rather matched her own nicely. "That's good, because if you were like most people, I don't think I'd like you nearly as much."

"Acting, now?" Adah was very close to laughing, maintaining it in the brightness of her smile. "You aren't hiding a singing talent in there, too, are you? A proper triple threat, a true force to be reckoned with."

"I'm reluctant," Adah wrote, even though she wasn't at all. This had the potential to be either very hilarious or very adorable, both of which were very promising, "to agree to this attempt to discover yet another talent on your part, as I can really only plug one ear at a time." She demonstrated, tucking her pen under in her hand as a finger lightly drifted to her ear.

"I didn't know I could throw things!" Adah commented with a laugh, forsaking her pen for a moment as if not to want to risk having her finger too far from her ear. Priorities, after all. "Stop wasting time so I can get to that part; I think I'll like that part."

Grinning terribly, Adah was just thinking about how lucky she was, having just a regular Frank Sinatra in her midsts. Right down to the blue eyes. And a smart one, too, unless she was potentially giving the Eel more credit than he was worth, which perhaps she'd find out in a moment as leaned forward to write again.

"You did, but if that was a clever ruse to trick me into singing it correctly, it won't work. Especially since I like your version much, much better."

With eyes slightly narrowed, Adah gave a slight glare with the tilt of her head. She would have taken the Eel up on the throwing thing if she had something else to throw other than her pen, which would forfeit her ability to write. She figured she could do it anyway, since she was going to speak next for sake of urgency of getting her point across, but she didn't want to disarm herself so early. "I don't sing that badly," she argued lightly, going with that reading as the other would suggest deep thinking on the Eel's part, "because I don't sing at all."

And, well, while she wasn't going to throw her pen, she decided after she'd made her statement, to lightly bop him on the head with it. So that he knew she was not to be trifled with, indeed.

"Clearly," Adah said with a scoffing laugh, although she'd admit to herself (and only herself) that his words made her feel pretty damn good. "The fact that I actually talk to you isn't good enough, you want me to sing now? What's next? Flying?"

Smile softening, Adah ducked her head for a moment to concede that point worthily to the Eel. And, with that, she slid her notebook a little closer to write again.

"And other ways to sing than with voices. Luckily. For both of our sakes."

"Oh, yes," Adah wrote smartly, "just as I can't get enough of your modeling. Only a matter of time before the singing follows suit, I can see that already."

Adah's nose wrinkled a little at the poke, but her expression of dissatisfaction could only maintain itself for too long. She was just such a sucker in light of appreciation for her intelligence. And there wasn't much to say to that, which wasn't strange for her, of course, and, besides, her satisfied beam did all that talking.

Adah was tempted to argue that using his hand as a shield like that wasn't very fair at all, considering that she couldn't have such defenses, but any argumentative urges on her part dissipated quickly, replaced with a light blush and a satisfied smirk, which disappeared a little when she bit her lip lightly.

"Should I feel bad," she didn't, "for suddenly taking over your previous associations?"

Adah gave a nod. "Good," she wrote and then paused a moment, looking over at him with a bit of thought reflected in her eyes. Teasing him always was something she enjoyed, but this...blushing a little more, she decided that perhaps she wanted to rein it in a little. Perhaps because even just thinking about it had little tremors of remembering distracting her pretty efficiently.

"'...and as the evening twilight fades away, the sky is filled with stars, invisible by day.'" She paused again, tapping her pen thoughtfully. "I'll have to admit, my mind won't immediately go to their deaths anymore." Death of a different sort, perhaps, but, for now, she finally pushed the notebook forward, watching his expression carefully.

Adah drew in a breath a little at that, her eyes sliding closed as her shoulder lifted, head tilting toward it. A shared memory, indeed, one that was almost impossible not to recall in terms of feeling more than mind. "A very good night," she whispered quietly.

Adah smiled lightly at the sudden affection, unexpected with her eyes lightly closed to the memory of Thursday, and she lightly returned it before pulling away just enough to murmur, "That was a rather mean thing to do right now..."

Oh, Dog, she was never going to be able to walk into a library without immediately salacious thoughts ever again, which would lead to a very interesting future considering she planned on being in a library frequently for the rest of her life. Her head tilted into the brushing cheek, letting out just a simple soft sound.

"You're much better at this," Adah managed to get out quietly, warmly, between leaning in to receive and return the kisses, "than you are at singing."

Re: Afternoon

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2007-11-05 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
And, well, if this was the result, Adah could certainly be okay with it, also. Leaning in a little more, carefully, she set her hand on the desk for a moment, partly to set the pen down and partly to make sure she'd set herself up a good balanced base for this. It really was mean for him to bring up Thursday and then kiss her like that, so it made the jump to her head swimming with thoughts of where kissing could go so much quicker, but, at the same time, she couldn't exactly complain in light of how much she enjoyed it. Once she was confident in her balance, she carefully, tentatively lifted her hand. The intent was to have it find its way to his cheek, but she had to take it slowly, would have to start at his arm.

Which wasn't a bad place to start either, really.

That shift in the feeling of a smile in the kiss made Adah smile back; that was a good sign that she was certainly doing things right. Not that she would ever really doubt herself in that field after all this, but it was still nice to get the reassurance. Hands on her cheek, against her hair. It was nice and kept her hands drifting and moving smoothly over his upper arm; wouldn't want things to get too crowded up here, and he did have nice arms, despite her reluctance to admit it.
