15 Ways to Protect Yourself and Others: Class 7, Period 3

"Good to see you all survived the weekend," Aly said with a grin as the students filed into class.  "Today, we're going to talk about being a bodyguard.  This is probably the most obvious way to protect someone, and the one that comes up most often in popular culture.  Movies, tv shows, songs, all depict what's fairly often a pretty boring and routine job.  Except that you have to be on alert and more than on alert every moment of the day and ready to spring into action at any second."

She gave a quick handwavy lecture about the basics of bodyguarding.  It was fairly obvious from the way she talked that while most of the things she taught she'd dealt with them in her life, but this one she was even more clear about.  It was a topic close to her heart.

"So what I'm going to ask you to do over the next week is to try this out.  I've paired you up in groups of two, and I'd like you to meet up a few times between now and next class to try out the role of the bodyguard and the responsibilities of both the guard and the person who's being guarded.  Check out possible threats, shield your charge from their adoring public, keep in mind that anyone can be a threat at any time.  Once you have a feel for it, switch up the roles and let the other person try.  You'll be reporting back about what you learned next week, and there'll be an in class exercise that's going to assume you thought about this at least a little bit over the week.

"Okay, here are your pairs on the board.  Today, I'd like you to meet up with your partner and talk about when you will meet and different tactics you can use."

"If you really, really have a problem with your partner?  Too bad.  You can't always like who you're working with."

"Any other questions?  I'm definitely around."

[OOC:  Of course the homework can be handwavy if you like, but it would be cool if not too.  Please wait for the OCD is up!]

Now this was a bit more up Chad's alley. Because, really, since the bouncer thing didn't pan out, or the rock star thing, and if the modeling thing didn't do the same, there would probably be the bodyguard thing, too. So Chad made sure to take very good notes.

Peter tried taking notes, but he was distracted by the fact that he apparently knew most of the words to the song from the Kevin Costner movie.

By a huge coincidence, Claire was humming it at a level just about audible.

Inara took careful notes, much more comfortable with the idea of guarding and being guarded.

Bodyguard. Check.

...Well, back home Sokka was more "sidekick" than "bodyguard", but... close enough, right?

He took good notes.

Well, okay. Pairing up with Adam would definitely be... interesting. Hopefully he wouldn't say anything that would end up breaking time.

Dean looked around for his partner.

Oh, hey, cool. Pairing up with Anders wasn't too bad at all. He glanced over his notes until his partner was ready.

Seely was sure Aravis would have no problems whatsoever with agreeing to be protected.

Really.

Uh huh.

This was something Peter figured he could excel with. Superheroing was kind of playing bodyguard for a whole city, after all. Kind of.

Peter looked around for Inara.

Zuko was seriously starting to wonder about Aly's classes.

Claire was still humming as she looked for Wyatt.

Working with the boyfriend's roommate? Officially of the awesome. Eve hummed cheerfully as she looked around for him.

Sokka looked around for Jaina. She could hold her own in a fight, right? Bodyguarding was easier that way.

Dean was looking happier than he had the last couple of days. This? Was a class he could totally get behind.

Zuko was there... and amazingly enough he was in a mood. Or something. Really, it's not like the difference was noticeable.
