Lee had never been more thankful for the library than today. An easy, believable excuse not to go anywhere his father might be lurking.

He's behind the desk, maybe doing some sulking, or maybe he's just thinking. Who knows.

Thursday arrived with breakfast, which she set down beside Lee. She remembered parental visits. They weren't the easiest thing to deal with when you were a teenager. "I'll be around if anyone stops in," she said and let him be.
