Sure, today was a holiday in some strange, normal places. But this was Fandom, and that meant Sam was doing his usual Monday duty of getting the library open.

Odds are, he would have done it even if it was a holiday. Geek.

"Well, you know me," Peter said. "Believe in destiny. My family. That ultimately there's got to be some goodness out there, even if we make it ourselves. Totally sucked at CCD though. Ma kept getting notes about how I kept asking smart-ass questions."

He grinned at Sam when he said that last bit.

Sam feigned a look of shock. "Smart-ass questions? You? I can't believe that at all."

"I thought they were perfectly legitimate," Peter said. "How was I supposed to know she'd get so cranky when I brought up the idea of dinosaurs for pets?"

"You brought up dinosaurs to a CCD teacher? Tell me you didn't go somewhere where they had corporal punishment."

"I saw it on a TV show!" Peter said in his own defense. "Plus I loved hanging out at the Museum of Natural history. I used to get lost in there for hours. Literally. They had to track me down and drag me home. Folks used to get so pissed."

"I think my dad would have killed me if I'd tried anything like that," Sam said, sounding almost jealous. "I'd be willing to make him pissed though, if it meant getting to hang around in a museum for hours."

"We should go," Peter said. "Next time we're in the city. I'll show you all the best spots to hide."

"I'm totally going to remember you said that, and hold you to it," Sam said.

"Name the museum," Peter said. "Could do Natural History, could do the Met - there's tons more."

"Natural History sounds like it could be fun. And interesting too. I apologize in advance if I get really nerdy."

"If you're not impressed by the whale then I don't want to know you," Peter replied, grinning.

"I'll make sure I'm impressed then."

"Good." Peter was going to go on along those lines, but then he remembered where he was and where he needed to be. "Anyway - got class. Should get to it at some point. Catch you later, Sam."

"See you later," Sam replied, still grinning even after Peter left. That felt a lot more like having his best friend back.
