"Today's class," Lulu began, from her accustomed place, sitting on the edge of her desk, "begins, truly, to get into some of the more advanced topics that we'll be discussing further after the mid-term break. However, the use of what we are discussing today is such a basic requirement for sex that I decided to include it in basic topics."

She stood, moving to the blackboard where she wrote out the title of today's lecture -- Foreplay: Seriously, Do It. "And I do mean this," she continued. "One of the primary components of healthy sex is a sense of intimacy, whether long or short term, and so if you are having sex, I encourage you strongly to engage in foreplay. You will find that it increases the pleasure for both you and your partner.

"You may ask what foreplay is; put succinctly, it is a series of acts intended to arouse two people towards orgasm, either through foreplay, or after engaging in intercourse." She handed around some information sheets before continuing. "As you can see here, there are a variety of acts that could be considered foreplay; in fact, some of them, such as oral sex, are commonly considered to be a form of sex in and of themselves, as opposed to merely a precursor to intercourse. Performing these acts without going 'all the way,' as it is sometimes called, is a form of sex, and as such I don't encourage you to practice this until you feel that you are emotionally ready."

She paused for a moment. "In light of last week's lecture on safer sex, I would like to underline something today: while the risk of pregnancy with foreplay is understandably minimal, there is, in any instance where fluids are transmitted from one person to another, the risk of the accompanying transmission of infection. As such, barriers such as condoms or dental dams," and she gestured to the basket she'd had the previous week, which now held the latter as well as the former, "should be used as necessary.

"Are there any questions?" After answering the questions ~~if there are any~~, Lulu continued, "All right, then. Next week, we are having our first test in the class, on all of the topics so far. What I would like you to do today is to get into groups of three and discuss the class to date, helping each other with areas in which you having difficulty. Remember, this is to be a safe, supportive environment. I will be watching and listening, and will step in if I feel it to be necessary."

Turtle nodded, shutting her notebook, hand on top of it, case closed. "Yup. No-nonsense." Just how she liked her sex-ed. Easy-peasy, simple and clear, and nothing that she ever planned on using for probably another decade, thus allowing herself to remove herself from the subject matter and be plenty comfortable with it, la.

"There's plenty of nonsense about sex. Miss Lulu said she'd find a list for me about sexual myths, because I got confused by some of the things my last discussion partner said." Anemone rolled her eyes. "We don't really get into the tricky stuff until after mid-terms. It almost makes me wonder what the final will be, I mean, how do you give a written test on something like this? Hopefully not practical demonstration, because I promised one of my boyfriends that I wouldn't go around kissing other people."

Turtle arched an eyebrow at all of that. "I don't see how a practical exam would prove anything, anyway, besides making people very uncomfortable. It's all mostly just technicalities, which are answered best removed from the actual activity and studied from a distance. That way, when you do come around to a more practical application, you're plenty prepared."

She frowned again. "I'd be very against a practical exam like that. I mean, you don't have to be active in stuff like that to understand stuff like this." She tapped her notebook.

"Understanding and application are two totally different things. You can have all the book-smarts on the subject you want, but when the situation arises ~~not dirty~~, sometimes people don't actually think or apply what they know."

Anemone twirled her pen as she tried to think. "I mean, yeah, a practical exam would just upset a lot of people, but I don't think a true/false test or even one of those vexing 'fill in the blank' ones can cover what we're learning. Which is fine with me, I'll take an easy test over a hard one any day, but it just makes me wonder, ya know? How do you know if someone actually learned anything, or if it just goes in one ear and out the other when it counts?"

"Oh, and congratulations on the student council thing." Yes, Anemone is just random like that.

"Thanks," Turtle said, a bit absently, because she was too busy frowning and thinking about what Anemone was supplying to her as an argument. Mostly because the idea of a practical examination being an option bothered her a lot and didn't at all fit into her idea of no-nonsense, while she also didn't feel that a regular test would be proving that she didn't know what she was talking about when it came to this sort of thing. She did have a boyfriend, after all, who clearly enjoyed kissing her, so just because she didn't want to take it to that next step didn't mean there was something wrong with her or that she wouldn't be any good at it just because she'd never done it.

"But," she said, finally coming to a point, "this is sex education, not sex application, so I fully believe that a written exam that re-establishes that we understand and can remember the concepts is a perfectly acceptable way to test what we've learned in this class. I mean, with what you're talking about, then this class would be more like something along the lines of 'okay, I taught you this, and, clearly, since you're all too stupid to handle abstract ideas and apply them yourself to your every day life, I need you to sit in on your next sexual endeavor so you can prove to me you're doing it right.'"

Anemone started giggling. "Maybe a note would suffice? 'Dear Miss Lulu, your student did just fine, love, the test-subject.' ? That would be so so wrong, and so funny."

"Yeah, I guess a written test might work then. I just don't know how you test on the stuff from the second part of the class, you know? Have you looked at the syllabus? I mean, it's probably a failure on my part to even wrap my brain around how you phrase those sorts of questions on a test. It's stuff that's not really talked about where I'm from. Not sober, at least."

Turtle gave Anemone a look like, hello, this is no-nonsense sex education class; there's no room for jokes and giggling in no-nonsense anything class, thank you very much. "Of course I've read the syllabus, and, really, none of this is stuff that's talked about at all where I'm from, not even the stuff we've already covered, so I don't see how that stuff would be any different to look at analytically as the rest of this stuff has been. I mean, the questions would probably something like, 'when practicing blank fetish, what are three very important rules to keep in mind?' I mean, sure it's going to be easy, as it's all just plain old common sense, but not everyone actually has common sense. In fact, the majority of the population seems to lack it, so some people might actually need to be educated in these things..."

Pish. There's always room for a sense of humor, as long as it's not pointed at anyone. "It's just, I dunno, it feels very abstract to me right now? Very non-quantifiable? Does that make any sense? Like yeah, it will all seem really common sense and 'oh duh' once we learn about it, but right now is just kinda nebulous."

"I think everywhere has a severe lack of common sense. I think it was pretty much bred out of the population by the time my world comes into being, the people there are kinda sheep-y and easily led." Anemone made a 'baaaaa' sound and waved one hand dismissively. "So hopefully it will all seem very logical once we get the handouts, but right now it's just, um, boggling. Yeah."

Turtle's head tilted a little. "I think you're just thinking about it too much."
