Library: Friday [28.09]

Karal probably should have been in bed, but he wasn't. Instead he was opening the library.

Slowly, and he looked kind of pale, but he was there.

Karal blinked as he came back to here from wherever he'd been. "Good morning, Jaina."

"Morning," she said, heading to the counter. "I stopped for breakfast. There's a muffin, if you want it. Sleep okay?"

"I did. The doctor gave me something to help me sleep, and, glory, it was effective," he replied with a small smile. "I think I would like some muffin, thank you. Would you share it with me?"

"I've got my own," she said, taking them out of the bag and handing him one. "Doctor?"

"It looks very good," he said as he accepted it, breaking off a tiny piece to nibble. "I promised I would see a Healer when I returned to Fandom, but there are none here."

"I'd offer to help, but I'm not very good at healing myself," Jaina said honestly. "Are you okay?"

"I will be fine," he assured her. "I have medicines that will fix the problem in a few weeks. I did not know you could heal as part of your Gift."

"Good," she said, figuring he had it under control. She shrugged as she broke off some of her muffin. "There are healing trances for that sort of thing. I need my brother to help me in order for it to do any good, though."

Karal had another bite of muffin; it was sitting well, and he smiled. "Sun-Priests meditate, and some use trances, particularly the Healer-Priests. Is it only your brother who can help you?"

"Doesn't sound too different from what we do, really," Jaina noted. "And no, not really. Any Jedi could put me under if I needed it, but it's a twin bond thing. It's just more effective when Jacen helps me."

"I have heard of powerful bonds between twins even in my world, so that makes sense to me." He picked at another bite of muffin, looking at her thoughtfully. "Do you still meditate? Not to exercise your powers, but for its own sake?"

"Sometimes. Not as often as I should, probably. I think Inara does it more," Jaina said. "Do you?"

"I do. I pray every morning, which is meditation of a different sort," he said quietly, looking at his muffin. "And meditate to seek peace or to find answers."

"Do you find that it works?" she asked. It did for Jacen. Herself, notsomuch.

"It does, yes. It allows me to feel closer to Vkandis." He looked up at Jaina. "Not that he requires rituals or ceremonies to speak with Him, but they can be comforting."

"I completely get that," she said, and smiled a little. "I'm not sure I've told you this, but I'm really impressed at your dedication."

He flushed and looked away. "All I want is to do my duty," he said in a quiet voice.

"That's all it takes," Jaina said. "I've kind of been avoiding subjects like this at home, and one of the really good things about being here is that it keeps me thinking in the right ways. You're a big help there. And I'm being sappy, sorry."

Karal was still pink, but he was smiling again. "If I have helped you in anyway, Jaina, it's no more than you have done for me," he said almost shyly. "You have been a good friend."

Jaina smiled at that and said, "And I'm going to get sappier, which might be a sign to go."

Karal nodded, feeling a bit sappy himself. "It was good to see you," he said, and held up the muffin. "And to share breakfast."

"I'm happy to share," she said, still smiling. "I'll see you later, Karal."

"Goodbye, Jaina," he replied, feeling far happier than he had been before she'd stopped by.
