"Welcome to another fun-filled class," Vala grinned at her students once they were seated, hopefully with some popcorn and sodas from a table to the side of the room, "today we'll be learning about ancient Hellenic polytheism, which is the boring and textbook term for the religion of the Ancient Greeks. Like with the Egyptians, it was understood that there was a group of gods--twelve, in this case--who lived on Mount Olympus and generally spent their time either having sex, getting revenge on each other, or interfering in the lives of both observant and unobservant mortals. This will also be important later, since the Romans pretty much stole the pantheon and renamed them, using their belief in many gods as a basis for persecuting the early Christians."

"But I'm jumping ahead, and that will just make things more confusing."

"Luckily for us, we have some excellent resources here at the school--you might want to have a chat with Ares or Vice Principal Hades sometime, just to satisfy your curiosity, and I also found a movie that seems to depict the pettiness of the gods fairly accurately, so we'll be watching that. Later, if you're still awake, I'd like to know whether you would sleep with a guy who disguised himself as either a swan or a shower of gold, and if you would, what you expect your child to look like. Or, if you're more of a god frame of mind--why wouldn't you just pretend to be human?"

She slipped the DVD into the player and sat back with some popcorn to watch the movie.

"You should see what the family reunions are like."

"Lots of farm animals, huh?"

Luke should think before he opened his mouth.

"Personal interest?" Hades replied.

"Ew!" Luke squeaked.

"Aw and you seemed so enthusiastic there for a second. Come on, Farmboy," Hades gibed, using the nickname he'd picked up from radio. "You can't tell me you never cuddled up with an animal on a cold night." Yeah, he didn't know where he was going with this, but the ew factor was fun.

"Ewwwwwwwww," Luke squealed. "We had droids!"

Pause.

"I didn't cuddle with them either."

"Protesting a little much there, aren't you kid?"

Luke sulked. "You're mean."

"No kidding."

"You know, in case you were thinking of maybe working on that," Luke said a little pointedly.

"Some of us are destined to be mean, some of us are destined to be whiny farmboys. Go with what you know."

"Hey!" Luke whined. "I don't whine!"

This gray person's head was on fire.

This had Blackheart very intrigued.

"Nice hair."

He had skin, therefore he didn't hate him. Yet.

"It's a fashion statement."

"Dad had...issues," Ares said.

No, he wasn't going to expand on that.

"I know about father issues," Blackheart said, the closest to sympathy he was ever going to get.

He wasn't about to elaborate, either.

He did, however, like this guy's fashion sense. One could never have too much leather.

Ares nodded. "Yours like to play favourites too?"

"Mine seems to be far more fond of his toys than his... family." Family of one? Evil-spawned Hellbeast son? "He spends a great deal of time wasting his resources on mortals, when he'd get so much farther if he'd stop trying to manipulate them and he'd start paying closer attention to the power he already has at hand."

Bitter? Blackheart? Never.

"One of those fathers," Ares said, in something resembling a sympathetic manner. "Of course, there is one way to deal with them."

"Is that so?" Blackheart raised an eyebrow. Any suggestions at this point were more than welcome.

Especially from people with such impeccable fashion sense.

"If they obviously care so little for their power, maybe someone with more appreciation for it should...make sure it ceases to be a concern for them."

"I was hoping you would say that."

Blackheart really, really liked this guy.

"What can I say, some family traditions are worth keeping."

"Ya think?" Luke asked sarcastically.

He never thought he'd find a group that made his family look normal. Ish.
