Detention, Saturday, September 15

Barney thought this was a total waste of his time. He could be off with Jo Jo right now getting some sweet early morning action. He posted the Detention List and leaned against the door to wait.

"Okay, losers, listen up!" Barney gathered the students just outside the Danger Shop.

"Today you ladies and gentleman will complete several challenges that Robin Sparkles, I mean, Robin Scherbatsky faced when becoming a temporary bro." Well, all but the final challenge.

"Start off by telling me why you're here and then you may enter...THE HALL OF MAN!"

After ~~they signed in~~, he dramatically opened the door to the Danger shop where they were faced with their first challenge.

Valentine considered this for a moment. "That might work as well," he mused.

Who was he to argue? Reading, eating, they rhymed, at least.

"We have an embarrassment of riches, it would seem," she said lightly. "Reading, eating, watching movies, and of course abdominal fruit salad. Our Sundays will certainly be full. What's on your list for Monday, then?"

Valentine smiled smoothly.

"I think on Monday, I would like for you to show me your sketchbook. I've always been curious, you know, and you are quite the talent. That is, if it isn't intruding on anything."

"Let me consult my rather busy schedule," Naminé said lightly, looking at her own sheet of paper. "Ah, yes. It would seem that Monday midmorning, I wished to teach you to draw. Or at least convince you to express yourself somewhat artistically. So I suppose that ties in rather pleasantly with my showing you the sketchbook."

She considered for a moment. "There are many old stories in there, you know. Where I ... atoned for my sins, I suppose."

She cleared her throat faintly. "I also noted here that you should paint my toenails an interesting color. If you should like to do so."

"I can't promise that I'd manage to paint anywhere near your toenails," Valentine laughed. "But I could try."

"I believe that might be fun, to try," she laughed. "And I have art class Monday afternoon, but I added a small bit after that. It just says, tell me something you've never told anyone."

Odd, that that would make her blush more than mentions of him eating food off her stomach.

"I'm perhaps not very good at this and we should move along to Tuesday," she said hurriedly.

The blush just made him smile more.

"I think you're better at it than I am," he stated. "I have a science class on Tuesday, but it isn't until after lunch, so I'm still free to harass you at work Tuesday mornings. Oh, did I say harass? I meant bother, my bad."

He smiled.

"That cheese grater is really quite accommodating. I wonder if he'd shove us into the pantry a second time."

Naminé flushed again. "If he did, I'd never hear the end of it," she said. "I omitted Tuesday, I'm afraid, since I work. And since you are on no account to come in while I work and distract me and make the cheese-grater think terrible things."

Which, knowing Valentine, meant he would be there with bells on.

"Have you a class Wednesday morning? I was rather hoping I could sketch you."

Valentine smiled and shook his head.

"I have absolutely no class for Wednesday," he stated. "I think I might be very flattered if you were to draw me. I was going to juggle for you, though that's not entirely as exciting, I think."

Naminé laughed. "I was hoping you should juggle for me. Except I appear to have placed that ... Thursday, after my Communications class. I suppose either works, really. Wednesday afternoon was simply 'I should like to lie in your arms and talk of anything that comes to mind,' whereas Thursday morning --"

She flushed again. "What did you have Thursday midmorning?"

"Sandcastles until invasions class at eleven," he said airily. "What did you have?"

Judging by her blush, hers was better than his.

Naminé considered demurring. Instead, she leaned forward and looked him directly in the eye.

"Teach me something I've never even heard of," she said in a low voice. "Friday?"

Valentine laughed a little.

"Friday? ... Teach you something you'd never even heard of before our debating class, actually." He grinned at her. "Should I change that? Or just teach you something else? What is your Friday?"

"We're rather in synch, it seems," she mused, eyes sparkling. "All we need to decide is timing. And for that, I had 'kiss until one or both of us can't speak properly,' which probably goes better after Debate than before it. Especially if we're to avoid detention."

"It is difficult to debate when you can't speak properly," Valentine agreed. "Though I can't complain about detention this week. You've found another outfit that you wear rather well."

Smile. Smile. Be charming. Yes. Excellent.

At that, she blushed. "I wasn't sure I'd like wearing black," she admitted. "But it does interesting things to my coloring. I hadn't realized it would. It's almost enough to lure me out into the world of colors."

Valentine grinned at that.

"The power of colours compels you. Excellent."

"I'm not so sure about that," Naminé said with a laugh. "Just that I'm tempted. White is rather elegant in its simplicity, you know."

More importantly, white allowed her to blend into the background.

"Black suits you most becomingly as well, you know. You look very handsome in that."

Valentine allowed himself a moment to be a little self-absorbed and proud, flashing her a winning smile.

"Of course."

Okay. Self-absorbed moment over.

"Saturday?"

"You're forgetting Friday evening," she said lightly. She hoped it sounded light; reading what she'd written for Saturday made her a little fluttery. "Did you realize that we've never had a proper date?"

Valentine stared at her for a moment.

Well, there was that one time when they had attempted lunch...

But that was an utter failure.

"You know, you're right." He smiled and thought for a moment. "What constitutes a proper date, and would you like to go on one with me Friday evening?"

And now she was blushing for an entirely different reason. "I ... I'm not certain that I know. What would you consider a proper date? What would be an enjoyable evening, do you think?"

She smiled, not quite looking up. "And I would love to, thanks."

Valentine put his hand on her chin and tilted her head a little so he could see her face. It really was a pretty face, lack of mask notwithstanding.

"I've never been on a proper date before, myself. I suppose we shall have to make something up, hmm? Perhaps a picnic..."

Valentine liked to eat.

"And some sort of entertainment. We'll figure something out."

Naminé smiled. "The cliché is, dinner and a movie, I believe. I've never been on a picnic. That sounds delightful."

"Since when have we ever been cliché, Naminé?" Valentine chuckled a little at the thought. "We can do a picnic and a movie, if that's what you'd like. Oddly enough, the first movie I ever saw, I saw during detention."

A detention where he was not himself due to strange forces of the universe taking him and swapping him with some stupid guy named Jason. Weird.

"Those screens are huge."

Valentine wasn't certain that he'd be able to keep his attention on such a screen. But then, he was pretty certain that dates that involved movies weren't supposed to involve looking at the screen so very much.
