Detention, Saturday, September 15

Barney thought this was a total waste of his time. He could be off with Jo Jo right now getting some sweet early morning action. He posted the Detention List and leaned against the door to wait.

"Okay, losers, listen up!" Barney gathered the students just outside the Danger Shop.

"Today you ladies and gentleman will complete several challenges that Robin Sparkles, I mean, Robin Scherbatsky faced when becoming a temporary bro." Well, all but the final challenge.

"Start off by telling me why you're here and then you may enter...THE HALL OF MAN!"

After ~~they signed in~~, he dramatically opened the door to the Danger shop where they were faced with their first challenge.

Ever seen The Price is Right? Barney thinks Bob is his dad. Ping in, and the special announcer will tell you about your showcase. Try to do better than your opponent, the one and only Sandy Rivers!

Valentine had no idea what in the world this was all about.

He hoped it involved buzzers.

Bob Barker appeared in front of Valentine. Rod was unavailable to announce the showcases so he had to lower himself and tell the students about them himself. A large showcase spun into view. "Valentine, showcase number one begins with a Mystery! What is everyone's favorite room in the house?"

The vocal yet absent studio audience yelled, "The game room!"

"And here is yours, Valentine! Starting with a velvet painting of dogs playing poker, your new game room includes a broken vintage pool table, a set of steak knives, and brand new laser tag equipment. Okay, Valentine! Do you bid or pass?"

[repinged due to lack of choice omg!]

Valentine stared long and hard at the items placed out before him.

The steak knives he could possibly juggle, if he was in the mood to lose a hand. The rest...

"Might I place a bid of zero? I don't think I would actually like to spend money on any of those things."

Eugh, laser tag.

Bob rolled his eyes. This was worse than the time with the showcase proposal. "No, you either bid a monetary value or pass the showcase to your opponent and see what's in showcase number two," Bob explained, thoroughly annoyed that anyone didn't know how to play his game.

Valentine was thoroughly annoyed, too.

"And if the next showcase is worse than this, then what? You'd have to pay me to big on this rubbish. Negative one cent, then."

"Damn, I'm glad I'm retired," Bob muttered before turning to Barney (who totally knocked Sandy out cuz he wanted to play after all). "Showcase number two contains A BRAND NEW CAR!" A silver Porsche 911 Carrera rolled into view.

Barney jumped up and down! "YES!"

"What's your bid Barney?" Bob asked.

Barney thought for a moment before answering, "7-3-5-0-0," very slowly. "Take that, kid!"

Valentine stared at the car for a moment.

"Okay. So what is it?"

...

He probably didn't want one anyhow.

Naminé wasn't sure what to make of this. But she was here for the showcase showdown, all right.

Bob Barker appeared on the Price is Right style stage in front of Naminé. Rod was unavailable to announce the showcases so Bob had to lower himself and tell the students about them himself. A large showcase spun into view. "Naminé, showcase number one begins with a Mystery! What is everyone's favorite vacation experience?"

The vocal yet absent studio audience yelled, "The beach!"

"And here is your trip to the beach, Naminé! It's an all expenses paid vacation to the island of Krakatoa! You'll live like the natives on the edge of fear for your life in the middle of volcano season. What do you say, Naminé? Do you bid or pass?"

Naminé considered. "I am rather fond of the beach, but not so much the volcano variety. I believe I shall pass, thank you."

"Alright, Naminé, let's let Sandy Rivers make a bid. Sandy? What do you bid on this showcase?"

Sandy Rivers stepped up (as Barney was busy at the moment). "Well, Bob, I'm pleased you're using my whole name as it gets the people at home really excited. Let's say 1,200 for the beach vacation." Sandy was pleased with himself, as always.

Bob then turned back to Naminé. "Let's take a look at Showcase Number Two - it's a brand new dune buggy!" There was a lot of description of the technical aspects of the dune buggy before Bob asked Naminé, "How much do you bid on this showcase?"

"A dune buggy?" Naminé lifted an eyebrow. "I'm not certain that I want it."

She looked over at Sandy. "Is your name a pun?"

"Why no, it's not a pun," Sandy said in his distinct anchorman voice. "It is a wonderful name though. The people love it."

"Sandy Rivers?" Naminé shook her head. "It's trying too hard. Come now. What was your real name, before you changed it?"

She turned to Bob Barker. "I don't believe I want the dune buggy. What on earth would I do with one?"

Bob sighed, "Naminé, say a number for us so we can move on." He was a bit disappointed that these kids didn't understand the show he'd spent his LIFETIME building.

Meanwhile, Sandy was staring at her. "What do you mean, 'before I changed it'?" He'd totally changed it.

"If you were really born with the name 'Sandy Rivers,'" Naminé mused, "you would hate your parents for it and find something else to call yourself."

She eyed Bob, and sighed in return. "Very well. Eight."

Eight was a number.

Cher had only seen this show when she would be home sick, and too tired to get up and get the remote. There had been some weird fever dreams because of it.

Bob Barker appeared on the Price is Right style stage in front of Cher. Rod was unavailable to announce the showcases so Bob had to lower himself and tell the students about them himself. A large showcase spun into view. "Cher, showcase number one begins with a Mystery! What is everyone's favorite romantic getaway?"

The vocal yet absent studio audience yelled, "Atlantic City!"

"And here is your trip to Atlantic City, Cher! It's an all expenses paid vacation to the gambling capital of the East Coast. What do you say, Cher? Do you bid or pass?"

"Pass," Cher said with a frown. "Everyone knows Vegas is the good place to go."

"Alright, Cher, let's let Barney make a bid. Barney? What do you bid on this showcase?"

Barney looked over the contents of the trip. "See, Bob, that's an easy one. Trip to Atlantic City? 8-7-5. Kind of a cheap prize for this show."

Bob glared at Barney, then turned back to Cher. "Now that we have Barney's bid, let's take a look at Showcase Number Two - it's a brand new dune buggy!" There was a lot of description of the technical aspects of the dune buggy before Bob asked Cher, "How much do you bid on this showcase?"

At least a dune buggy could be given to charity?

"Umm. Three thousand?" she guessed.

Bob could hug this girl for understanding the rules of the game.

"Let's see who has won!" Bob pulled out two cards and read from them. "Barney, the price of showcase number one is ... eight hundred seventy five dollars! An exact bid!" Barney mouthed 'beat that' at Cher.

"And Cher, your showcase was valued at... two thousand ninety dollars! I'm sorry you're ten dollars over!"

Were there a camera, it would totally be looking for a reaction shot from Cher.

Cher blinked. "If it was that cheap, I wouldn't want it anyway."

Bob gave Cher a conciliatory smile and turned back to Barney, "Since you guessed the correct price, exactly, you win both showcases!"

Barney jumped up and down and screamed, "Atlantic City, here I come!" He seemed to have forgotten this was a simulation.

Cher was now free to go.
