Detention, Saturday, September 15

Barney thought this was a total waste of his time. He could be off with Jo Jo right now getting some sweet early morning action. He posted the Detention List and leaned against the door to wait.

"Okay, losers, listen up!" Barney gathered the students just outside the Danger Shop.

"Today you ladies and gentleman will complete several challenges that Robin Sparkles, I mean, Robin Scherbatsky faced when becoming a temporary bro." Well, all but the final challenge.

"Start off by telling me why you're here and then you may enter...THE HALL OF MAN!"

After ~~they signed in~~, he dramatically opened the door to the Danger shop where they were faced with their first challenge.

Students sent on from Challenge One will find themselves in a cigar bar. Your mission: Attempt to smoke a simulated cigar (or a bubblegum one) and drink a simulated brandy (or iced tea).

Bubblegum and iced tea. Valentine could live with that.

He made a reach for the 'brandy' and attempted to look casual about it.

"Can I offer you a copy of Cigar Aficionado?" Barney asked, sitting down to sip his own scotch and smoke his expensive Cuban cigar. Gods he loved the danger shop!

"You can offer," Valentine decided. "It doesn't cost anything to be an aficionado, I hope?"

Pam took a bubblegum cigar, because ew, and considered the brandy for a moment before thinking about second drinks and deciding to go with the iced tea.

She tried to look natural about it. It was hard, considering she was also trying to text.

"Enjoying the atmosphere?" Barney asked, seating himself across from her with his cigar and scotch.

"Um. Sure," Pam replied, looking a little wary. "I've never been to one of these before. Or worn a suit."

"You should always wear a suit," Barney said seriously. "Only lemmings who don't want to be taken seriously wear jeans."

"I'm sixteen," Pam said by way of explanation.

"There's no age requirement to suiting up," Barney replied.

Naminé eased into one of the chairs and placed a bubblegum cigar between her lips. "Do I have to light this?" she asked. "And are we allowed to choose the brandy? I've never had it."

"You may choose whichever you like," Barney said from his chair, Cigar Aficionado on his lap, glass of scotch in his hand.

The tea was for anyone not man enough to try the brandy.

"Well, then. If we're going to be having the man experience, I suppose we should go all out." She poured herself a snifter of brandy and swirled it, because it looked ever so classy when people did that.

She was staying with the bubblegum cigar, but hey, she was making an effort, here.

"What are we drinking to?"

Barney hadn't thought about that. He considered for a moment before saying, "We drink to detention being over with as quickly as possible."

"No objections here," she mused, lifting her glass and then taking a healthy swig from it.

It burned a little, but in a very nice way.

"You know, this feels rather sophisticated. Sitting here with ... well. I suppose I would feel more sophisticated if my cigar weren't hot pink. But still."

Cher took one of the bubblegum cigars, but frowned at it. "I'm not sure this is the right image I want to be giving."

"Not the right detention image?" Barney asked, looking up from his Cigar Aficionado.

"Image in general. I mean, I might never talk to or be in the same room with some of these people again. I don't want their only image of me to be smoking something that would be unhealthy for me if it weren't bubblegum."

Barney laughed sadly. "Drink your tea and chew your cigar. We wouldn't want to be stuck here all day, would we?"

"Oh, okay," Cher said, figuring that was a pretty easy win. She sat in a chair, holding the cigar in what she thought was a classy way and sipping on her iced tea.

"...Is this real sugar? Or Splenda? Because that's the devil."

Jenny kicked back in a chair to enjoy her cigar and brandy, wishing only that they weren't simulated. After the first puff she said, "Hey, this isn't half bad."

"I'd say they're much better than those cigarettes," Barney nodded, flipping through his magazine.

"I'll have you know I smoke only the finest of cheap silk cuts," Jenny said indignantly. "And I've had much better than this." You know, when she used to hang out with Fidel, back in the day.

Barney hurumphed and returned to reading his magazine.

"Hey," Jenny said as something occured to her. She held up her snifter of brandy and said again, "Hey. Will this get me drunk?" She sounded very hopeful.
