Library; Wedneday [ 09/12 ]

If there was anything in this world that might convince Adah to start walking upright and proper, she was thinking it would probably be this place. She'd done a quick tour around the library, collecting this book and that until she couldn't hold any more and couldn't keep going back and forth between the desk and the shelves without ending up a curled ball of pain on the floor. And since the Eel supposedly might slither in today, that would be no good. No good at all.

All at good, no. Good, no, be would that.

Still armed with last night's mathematical theory book, Hermione headed into the library. Ron thought she spent so much time here anyway, she might as well take the studying out of her room.

Hermione was set on heading for her favorite table, but she couldn't not at least introduce herself. That would be rude. "Hi," she said. "I haven't seen you in here before. Are you new?"

Hermione had expected words, so she wasn't sure exactly how to handle this, social being that she was. "My name's Hermione," she said. "You might see me in here quite a bit."

Hermione had no idea what was going on, but she was curious herself. Usually by now there was introductions and some chatter before she went on her way, and she was a little thrown. "What's your name?" she asked.

This was new. It was a little unsettling to see that sort of communication when she was used to words, but Hermione knew that was her own perception. She leaned forward to read the name, pronouncing it aloud. "That's pretty," she said. "It's nice to meet you, Adah."

This was definitely one of the strangest conversations Hermione had ever had, but she was interested in finding out how to actually have it, and whether she was doing it correctly. "Mine's Greek," she said. "I was named after a character in Shakespeare, but the name also shows up in Greek myths."

"Sorry," Hermione said, seeing the expression, but rather than guess, she asked, "What did I say wrong?"

"You were frowning," Hermione told her. "Which a lot of people do about my name, but not usually the history of it."

"I get criticized a lot for telling people things they don't want to know," she said. "I'm sorry if that's what I've done. It's a default." And Adah was probably the only person to ever get an apology from her about that, but Hermione was still trying to figure her out and didn't want to offend her at all.

Hermione smiled. "You could look up which myth it's from," she suggested.

Hermione nodded back and smiled. "I should start studying," she said. "I'm sure you'll see me here again soon."
