Library, Saturday [09/08]

Mac made her way down to unlock the library, coffee in one hand, and laptop tucked under the other arm.

First day as a library aide, and she was just hoping today wasn't one of those days the books would decide to fly at people.

"I grew up in the Cloister, and then lived in the Temple at Sunhame, which has the largest library in all of Karse." He grinned. "It was wonderful."

Karal couldn't help a dubious glance at the computer. "The internet is very useful," he said diplomatically. "But there is something enjoyable about the feel of a book in your hands."

"We have no electricity in my world, so even if they were portable, it would be difficult to use. But this," he held up his book, "I can take anywhere."

"No, no electricity, or computers, or cars or televisions or telephones or skyscrapers," he said with a small smile. "We do have magic, and horses, though."

"When you have never known them? Perhaps. Everything here is so convenient, it will be hard to go back to," he searched for a simple example, "to telling time with water or candles."

"Tonight, yes, and I should go," he said reluctantly. "There are things I need to do before then."
