Communication: Week 1 (Thursday, P5)

Silent Bob has never quite looked the part of a teacher, not even without his hetero lifemate - who was, surprisingly, completely absent. Bob did keep looking towards the window with some kind of trepidation, as if not sure who had gotten into the grappling hooks and was about to make an appearance at any moment.

He was wearing a 'HELLO MY NAME IS' badge, but the name on said badge was 'Jay'. Students he'd had before got a little wink to play along as they would take a sticker for themselves.

He also had his ever-present whiteboard (very handy for remaining silent) and the title 'COMMUNICATION'. When everyone had settled, he skipped the introductions and spoke.

Yes, spoke.

Silent Bob said, "Communication leads to community, that is, to understanding, intimacy, and mutual valuing." Without saying another word, he wrote 'TYPES OF COMMUNICATION' on one side of his board and then 'REASONS TO COMMUNICATE' on the other, turning back towards the class and leaning against the teacher's desk with that expectant sort of 'your turn' look on his face.

[[OCD on the way up. Name thing will be explained in the threads. Today is also my first day of class, so I'll be gone for a chunk of the afternoon but will be around to play later on. Bob is still looking for a TA. Play away!]]

Cassandra's eyes darted around the classroom every so often, looking for clues as to what might be written down. Being illiterate could be pretty difficult when your teacher insisted on written communication.

Jack saw her looking and gave her a smile. And a slight head tilt.

She was too caught up in trying to figure out what's going on with all the writing to notice too much, but she nodded back in silent greeting at his smile.

Jack made a little gesture to indicate the vacant seat next to him, if she was interested in a change of venue, get a better view of Jack.

The gesture made her blink, and she turned back to eye Jack doubtfully. Then she shook her head in what she hoped was polite refusal.

Cassandra was never all that good at polite.

Jack shrugged, suggesting maybe next week.

She shrugged back suggesting that it could happen.

Anything was possible, after all.

He tilted his head the other way, slightly. Maybe they could meet after class. If she wasn't busy.

She blinked, somewhat confused. There were a lot of undertones to his movements, and some of them were a bit unfamiliar.

Jack was used to the look of confusion in someone's eyes who were dealing with Jack. He didn't know exactly what it meant, just that it was a familiar look.

He pointed to his nametag with a slight wave. And you are?

While she had no idea what the nametag was supposed to be for, or what it said, Cassandra knew what he was asking. Her voice was pitched low enough that no one father away than Jack would hear it when she answered, "Cassandra."

"Cassandra," he repeated to himself. Nice name. "You a new student?" He turned a bit more towards her.

She nodded.

"Me too," he said with a grin. She seemed nice. Bit shy. "Where ya from?"

"Nowhere. I... mostly just drift."

Re: Discussion

"I'm from Cali, so I'm clear 'cross the country."

Re: Discussion

[identity profile] iseewhatyoumean.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh." Cassandra was never good at small talk, so she wasn't really sure what she was supposed to say beyond that.

Jack grinned. He was such a great conversationalist! "Want to talk more after class? Don't want to get you in trouble in the first class and all."

Re: Discussion

[identity profile] iseewhatyoumean.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
She simply nodded, at a loss for anything else to say.

"Or you can drop by my room. Say, on Friday? (http://inthereflexes.livejournal.com/2078.html) Room 208."

Re: Discussion

[identity profile] iseewhatyoumean.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Which one is that?" She was pretty sure it was on the second floor, but she had a bit of trouble navigating room numbers without being able to read said numbers.

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's on the second floor, on the..." he held up both hands to figure out which one made the L shape. "It's the fourth one down from the Common Room."

Re: Discussion

[identity profile] iseewhatyoumean.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay," she nodded. "Friday."

Re: Discussion

[identity profile] inthereflexes.livejournal.com 2007-09-07 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He smiled back at her. "Friday," he nodded.
